00:04:13ANNOUNCER [OVER TV]:
00:04:13We bring you breaking news.
00:04:16Good afternoon.
00:04:16In the last several minutes,
00:04:19KOB has received
00:04:19dozens of reports
00:04:21of what appears to be a crashed
00:04:21aircraft, possibly two.
00:04:25on Albuquerque's east side.
00:04:27As of yet details are scarce
00:04:28but callers describe witnessing
00:04:28an explosion overhead,
00:04:31followed by falling debris.
00:04:31Visible now--
00:04:34--crash investigators
00:04:36with the National
00:04:36Transportation Safety Board
00:04:38are expected on site
00:04:38this evening.
00:04:40But officials warn
00:04:40that with a debris field
00:04:43of this magnitude,
00:04:43the investigation--
00:04:45Officials are now saying
00:04:45that the Boeing 737
00:04:47was being re-routed, or
00:04:47vectored, through the airspace,
00:04:51which is standard procedure
00:04:51according to an FAA spokesman.
00:04:54The eight-seat King Air 350
00:04:54was a charter flight,
00:04:58operating out of St. George,
00:04:58Utah,
00:05:00bound for Amarillo, Texas.
00:05:03It, uh, sounded like hail,
00:05:03like heavy hailstones.
00:05:06It was just, um,
00:05:06bump-bump-bump,
00:05:09all over the neighborhood--
00:05:11--indicating that the final
00:05:11death toll now stands at 167.
00:05:16[SPEAKING IN SPANISH]
00:05:18--167.
00:05:19This mid-air collision
00:05:19left many wondering
00:05:22how such an accident
00:05:22could take place
00:05:24in a system
00:05:24with so many safeguards.
00:05:26--that the collision
00:05:26which brought down Flight 515
00:05:29was caused by improper
00:05:29air traffic control.
00:05:32We have the bombshell
00:05:32confirmation
00:05:35out of Oklahoma City today
00:05:35as the FAA confirmed,
00:05:37it was indeed a lone
00:05:37air traffic controller's
00:05:40fateful mistake.
00:05:41[SPEAKING IN SPANISH]
00:05:43--is Donald Margolis,
00:05:43a 19-year veteran
00:05:47of the FAA's Air Route Traffic
00:05:47Control Center in Albuquerque.
00:05:51--Margolis recently returned to
00:05:51work after a five-week absence,
00:05:54which was due to, quote,
00:05:54"a personal loss".
00:05:57While it's now known
00:05:57that Margolis
00:05:59had recently lost a daughter
00:05:59to a--
00:06:01BANFIELD:
00:06:01--drug overdose a month before.
00:06:04His troubled daughter
00:06:04Jane Margolis, aged 26,
00:06:07apparently had a long history
00:06:07of substance abuse.
00:06:09Friends of the family say
00:06:11the death of his only child
00:06:11hit Margolis particularly hard.
00:06:15Coming as it did little more
00:06:15than a month before,
00:06:18many are questioning the timing
00:06:18of his return to work,
00:06:21and are wondering how much
00:06:21blame truly lies
00:06:24with those
00:06:24who let this grieving father--
00:07:47[GASPS]
00:07:48No! No! No!
00:07:52[GRUNTING]
00:07:57[YELLS]
00:08:00[GASPING]
00:08:18WOMAN:
00:08:18I usually open with
00:08:18"So sorry you're here."
00:08:21Where would you like to begin?
00:08:24Um, I really just need this quick and easy, you know?
00:08:27As quick as something like this can be. So...
00:08:32Okay. Is that mutual?
00:08:35Does your husband go along with that?
00:08:39Does he know?
00:08:41Well, I mean, he certainly knows we're separated, so...
00:08:44Has he moved out?
00:08:46Uh, we're in the process of moving him out.
00:08:48Yeah. Today, hopefully.
00:08:50And in the meantime, my--
00:08:50My son and, uh, my daughter and I are staying with my sister.
00:08:56So you've moved out?
00:08:56Well, yes, just temporarily.
00:09:00Only so he could get his things and...
00:09:02That was, uh, supposed to happen last week, but then came the crash and...
00:09:06Oh, God, you weren't one of the--?
00:09:08Right, yeah.
00:09:08Right beneath the flight path.
00:09:11And, um, we had debris land in our yard, and all over our neighborhood, so...
00:09:18Mm, so terrible.
00:09:18Yeah. Apparently, even, um, you know, parts of bodies.
00:09:24So I certainly couldn't bring myself to...
00:09:28So awful.
00:09:28I know.
00:09:31Anyway, I was certainly not ready to move back.
00:09:33But it's time.
00:09:35And, um,
00:09:35I'm sure we're driving my sister and her husband up a wall.
00:09:39Well, you definitely wanna maintain residency in your actual home.
00:09:44It just puts you in a better position in regards to custody.
00:09:47Two children, you said?
00:09:49Yes. Um, Holly here, and then I have a son in high school, Walter Jr.
00:09:57They need to stay with me.
00:09:59Okay.
00:10:01How long have you been married?
00:10:01Sixteen years.
00:10:04And it's not an apartment, it's a house that you live in?
00:10:07Mm-hm.
00:10:07Do you own outright, do you have a mortgage?
00:10:10Yes, there's definitely a mortgage.
00:10:12We have, um, maybe 15 years on it.
00:10:15What about other debts or assets?
00:10:18Do you feel you have a good understanding of you and your husband's financial situation?
00:10:27Is your husband employed?
00:10:27Here's the thing.
00:10:29I'm really not looking for any sort of, uh, loopholes, or, um, I don't know, just--
00:10:36No, no loopholes.
00:10:38I just intend that every one of my clients get a full and honest accounting of what it is they owe and what it is they own.
00:10:47To that end, I say let's leave no stone unturned.
00:10:53You'd be amazed what I've seen partners hide from one another.
00:11:20[DOORBELL RINGS]
00:11:28HANK:
00:11:28Walt?
00:11:31Hey, buddy?
00:11:44Hey, Walt?
00:11:47Hey.
00:11:47HANK: There you are.
00:11:48Listen, I, uh...
00:11:48You know, well...
00:11:52It's, uh...
00:11:54It's time.
00:12:01HANK:
00:12:01The shittiest week since 9/11, okay? Bar none.
00:12:04This is it.
00:12:04We're living it.
00:12:06I speak with some authority because we definitely had some shitty weeks.
00:12:10But this here? I mean, call, you know, call freaking Guinness Book of World Records.
00:12:15Am I talking too much? Am I?
00:12:15I am, right? I know.
00:12:18But this situation between you and, uh... Uh...
00:12:21I don't know.
00:12:21I'm not asking, by the way.
00:12:23It's none of my business.
00:12:25I do not wanna get in the middle of you two.
00:12:27I'm just saying, listen, okay?
00:12:29You beat a little tactical retreat, huh, you regroup, and then boom.
00:12:35You know, absence makes the...
00:12:38Yeah.
00:12:45I'm, uh, pulling for you, man.
00:12:45I'm pulling for you.
00:12:53Whoa, whoa. No heavy lifting.
00:12:53I got it.
00:12:55No, it's okay.
00:12:57I got it.
00:12:58Jesus. What do you got in there, cinder blocks?
00:13:05Half a million in cash.
00:13:10[LAUGHS]
00:13:13That's the spirit.
00:13:16[LAUGHS]
00:13:19I got it, I got it.
00:13:21[LAUGHS]
00:13:23[GRUNTS]
00:13:25[BAG THUDS]
00:13:40MAN:
00:13:40Who's here for
00:13:40self-improvement?
00:13:45Come on, give me a show of hands.
00:13:48Who among you is here hoping they can actively improve who they are?
00:13:59All right.
00:13:59See, that's your first mistake.
00:14:03You should be here to learn self-acceptance.
00:14:14Hey, honey, you, uh--
00:14:14You want another waffle?
00:14:17[PHONE RINGING]
00:14:17I still got the iron out.
00:14:19I could, uh, cut up some bananas.
00:14:23SKYLER [ON RECORDING]:
00:14:23Hi, you've reached Walt,
00:14:23Skyler, Flynn and Holly.
00:14:27Please leave us a message.
00:14:27[PHONE BEEPS]
00:14:30WALT:
00:14:30Uh, hey. Hello, everybody.
00:14:30Good morning.
00:14:33I was just checking in
00:14:33and thought I'd, uh,
00:14:35pass along the current
00:14:35contact information.
00:14:38You certainly can always reach
00:14:38me on my cell,
00:14:40I've always got that on me,
00:14:40but, uh,
00:14:43in terms of a mailing address,
00:14:45I'm here at the Beachcomber,
00:14:45and you know what?
00:14:48It's actually very nice,
00:14:48very pleasant.
00:14:51Not as high-end as the Oakwood,
00:14:52but not as corporate--
00:14:52Oh, hey, would you please--?
00:14:55WALT JR.:
00:14:55Hey, Dad, it's me.
00:14:58[WALT JR. SIGHS]
00:14:59No, I'm not okay.
00:14:59I don't know what's going on.
00:15:02Nobody's telling me jackshit around here.
00:15:04Hey, Flynn.
00:15:04WALT JR.: Whatever.
00:15:07I-- I don't even care anymore.
00:15:09Can-- Can you just give me a ride to school?
00:15:11I'll take you to school.
00:15:14Yeah. No, I'm ready now.
00:15:17SKYLER:
00:15:17Flynn, I'm taking you to school.
00:15:21All right, I'm here.
00:15:21See you soon.
00:15:38[♪♪♪]
00:15:59[CELL PHONE BUZZING]
00:16:36Okay.
00:16:43[KNIFE CLINKING]
00:16:44CARMEN [OVER SPEAKERS]:
00:16:44May I have your attention,
00:16:44please?
00:16:48As all of you know,
00:16:49last week our city suffered
00:16:49a terrible tragedy
00:16:53that none of us
00:16:53will ever forget.
00:16:55Today we're going to take time
00:16:55out of our schedule
00:16:58to gather in the gym and talk.
00:17:01I just find it, you know, really, really hard to concentrate.
00:17:09Because of all the horrors, you know, we perceived.
00:17:15It just really gets inside your brain and, uh...
00:17:18In college, they have this thing where if your roommate kills himself, like, if you come home and find him hanging in the closet or whatever, it's basically an automatic A for you.
00:17:32And I just think that that kind of compassion is--
00:17:35Is something to--
00:17:35Okay. Thank you, Barry.
00:17:38Who wants to go next?
00:17:43No judgments, guys.
00:17:43Just feelings.
00:17:46You can say anything and everything that's on your mind.
00:17:48Anyone?
00:17:55There you go, honey.
00:17:59I just keep asking myself--
00:18:01CARMEN:
00:18:01Honey, could you please stand up?
00:18:06Thank you.
00:18:07I just keep asking myself,
00:18:07"Why did this happen?"
00:18:12I mean, if there's a God and all, why does he allow those innocent people to die for no reason?
00:18:18Okay, can we just keep it secular, honey?
00:18:22Anyhow, I haven't really been sleeping much.
00:18:25Does anyone else have that?
00:18:29I just keep hearing that-- That sound.
00:18:35That boom.
00:18:38It just plays over and over in my head like it won't ever stop.
00:18:47CARMEN:
00:18:47Thank you, sweetheart.
00:18:49Is there anyone else?
00:18:49BOY: Over here.
00:18:56Uh, ahem.
00:18:58My neighbor, he heard the crash and he ran outside, and he found, like, this seat.
00:19:06Like an airline seat.
00:19:09Like what you have on an airliner?
00:19:11Well, anyway, the seat was standing perfectly upright in his front yard right next to his Sea-Doos, because, like, he has Sea-Doos.
00:19:20But there was still a pair of legs buckled into them.
00:19:26Human legs.
00:19:29Jesus H. Christ.
00:19:34You okay?
00:19:34WALT: Yeah, sorry. I'm...
00:19:37I was just moved.
00:19:40CARMEN:
00:19:40Maybe we should hear from the faculty.
00:19:43Certainly this tragedy didn't only affect our students.
00:19:49Mr. White, would you like to say something?
00:19:52And by the way, welcome back. Hm?
00:19:57[ALL APPLAUD]
00:20:06It's so good to have you back.
00:20:21Uh...
00:20:24I-- I guess what I would--
00:20:24Sorry, sorry.
00:20:28[CLEARS THROAT]
00:20:31I guess what I would wanna say is, to look on the bright side.
00:20:43First of all, nobody on the ground was killed.
00:20:46And that...
00:20:48I mean, an incident like this, over a populated urban center?
00:20:52That right there, that's just gotta be some minor miracle.
00:20:57So...
00:20:58Plus, neither plane was full.
00:21:02You know, the 737 was, what, uh, maybe two-thirds full,
00:21:05I believe? Right, yes?
00:21:08Or maybe even three-quarters full?
00:21:11Well, at any rate, what you're left with casualty-wise is just the 50th-worst air disaster.
00:21:20Actually, tied for 50th.
00:21:23There are, in truth,
00:21:2753 crashes throughout history that are just as bad or worse.
00:21:32Tenerife.
00:21:36Has anybody...?
00:21:36Anybody hear of Tenerife? No?
00:21:41In 1977, two fully loaded 747s crashed into each other on Tenerife.
00:21:48Heh. Does anybody know how big a 747 is?
00:21:53I mean, it's way bigger than a 737, and we're talking about two of them.
00:21:57Nearly 600 people died on Tenerife.
00:22:01But do any of you even remember it at all?
00:22:05Any of you? I doubt it.
00:22:07You know why?
00:22:07It's because people move on.
00:22:14They just move on.
00:22:14And we will too.
00:22:17We will move on, and we will get past this.
00:22:19That is what human beings do.
00:22:21We survive, and, uh...
00:22:27We survive and--
00:22:27And we overcome. Yeah.
00:22:32We survive.
00:22:32We survive and--
00:22:37Okay?
00:22:37Thank you.
00:22:40[MIKE FEEDBACKS]
00:22:41Good.
00:22:44[♪♪♪]
00:23:02[GOAT BLEATING]
00:23:38[♪♪♪]
00:25:20Hey, how's your
00:25:20Aunt Marie doing?
00:25:24Fine. I-- I guess.
00:25:27You make sure you say hello to her for me, will you?
00:25:30Why don't you just come inside?
00:25:30It's your house.
00:25:36No, I...
00:25:49[CAR DOOR SLAMS]
00:25:53[ENGINE STARTS]
00:26:13He's gone.
00:26:18MARIE:
00:26:18Hey, Flynn. How's tricks?
00:26:21How's what?
00:26:21Tricks. It's an expression.
00:26:24How are you?
00:26:26Why-- Why you gotta treat him like this?
00:26:29Why you gotta be like this?
00:26:29Why can't you just talk even?
00:26:32Hey, hey, hey.
00:26:32Cool down, okay? Okay?
00:26:47Out of the mouths of babes, huh?
00:26:51[DOOR SLAMS]
00:26:53Wow.
00:26:55You know, try not to hold it against him.
00:26:57You know, I mean, the poor kid, he's probably just dying of curiosity.
00:27:03You know, and I guess it would be natural for him to wonder.
00:27:08I mean, he's probably just wondering,
00:27:10"What is it that could have gone so wrong that my mother would leave--?"
00:27:12Marie.
00:27:15I can't help you get through this, Skyler.
00:27:18If you won't tell me what it is that Walt did?
00:27:20Well, you know what,
00:27:20I don't--
00:27:22I don't remember asking you, all right?
00:27:24So if you wanna be supportive, be supportive without prying.
00:27:28That would be really great.
00:27:28"Prying." Okay.
00:27:31Well, prying's a strong word.
00:27:33So helpful.
00:27:40LEADER:
00:27:40It's that voice inside your head.
00:27:46It's that sneaky, rat-bastard,
00:27:4624/7 voice.
00:27:51You guys know what I'm talking about.
00:27:53That voice that tells you you're not good enough.
00:27:57Not good enough for what?
00:27:57Not good enough to be what, president of the United States?
00:28:03Well, okay, so maybe you're not that good.
00:28:07But now, are you good enough to deserve your share of basic human happiness?
00:28:13Are you good enough to be okay with who and what you are?
00:28:19I say yes.
00:28:25But it doesn't matter what I say.
00:28:27It's your voice, which means you're the only one that hears it.
00:28:32Which means you're the only one that can fight it, right?
00:28:35Jesse, we never hear from you.
00:28:39What's going on? You can tell me
00:28:39I'm full of shit.
00:28:43It's okay, I don't mind.
00:28:45Just come on.
00:28:45Let us in on it.
00:28:55So, like, what makes you the expert?
00:29:00I don't think
00:29:00I ever said I was that.
00:29:02JESSE:
00:29:02Yeah, but you're the one sitting here, right?
00:29:05Telling us "thus" and "so,"
00:29:08"be happy," "forgive yourself," blah, blah, blah.
00:29:12Have you ever really hurt anybody?
00:29:17I don't just mean disappointed your mother or whatever, but did you ever really hurt someone?
00:29:30I killed my daughter.
00:29:37It was July 18th, which is my birthday.
00:29:43July 18th, 1992.
00:29:48I was high on cocaine and I was drunk.
00:29:52Cocaine wasn't an issue because I had bought myself two grams as a birthday present.
00:29:54I had plenty left.
00:29:58But I was out of vodka.
00:30:01And this is in
00:30:01Portsmouth, Virginia, where instead of selling liquor in the supermarkets, they have these ABC stores, which close at 5 p.m., and right then it was like 4:42.
00:30:15So I'm arguing with my wife.
00:30:18"Come on. Go to the ABC for me, it's my birthday.
00:30:22Come on. They're not gonna sell it to me."
00:30:27And she's saying "No, no."
00:30:31So I'm pissed.
00:30:33And the clock is ticking, so I jump in my truck.
00:30:37She's my 6-year-old daughter.
00:30:42She's playing at the end of the driveway.
00:30:47So...
00:30:55How do you not hate yourself?
00:30:58I did hate myself for a long time.
00:31:02But it didn't stop me from drinking and getting high.
00:31:06It just made it that much worse.
00:31:12Self-hatred, guilt, it accomplishes nothing.
00:31:17It just stands in the way.
00:31:20Stands in the way of what?
00:31:24True change.
00:31:43[KNOCK ON DOOR]
00:31:46[SIGHS]
00:31:56[CLEARS THROAT]
00:31:56Skyler.
00:31:58Is this a good time to talk?
00:32:00Yeah. Come in. Please.
00:32:10Skyler.
00:32:15Uh...
00:32:19[SIGHS]
00:32:32Do you wanna start?
00:32:44Okay.
00:33:05Why-- Why are you doing this?
00:33:07Why are you even thinking this way?
00:33:10Is it to punish me?
00:33:12I am not punishing you, Walt.
00:33:15This is punitive, is what this is.
00:33:17We are happily married.
00:33:19[SCOFFS]
00:33:21I am happily married.
00:33:22I am happy.
00:33:22We're just...
00:33:32I love you, Skyler.
00:33:32And I would do anything for you.
00:33:40Would you even consider...?
00:33:42I mean, Jesus!
00:33:45You come in here and you wave these papers in my face, when there's a-- A whole other, entire side to this thing.
00:33:54There's your side and there's my side, and you haven't heard my side yet.
00:33:59You haven't heard any of it at all.
00:34:00You're a drug dealer.
00:34:06No. What--? How--? What?
00:34:16[EXHALES]
00:34:20Yeah.
00:34:23How else could you possibly make that kind of money?
00:34:31Marijuana.
00:34:34That Pinkman kid.
00:34:44No?
00:34:48Oh, my God, Walt.
00:34:53Cocaine?
00:34:59It's methamphetamine.
00:35:03But I'm-- I'm a manufacturer,
00:35:03I'm not a dealer.
00:35:08Oh.
00:35:10Per se. I-- It--
00:35:12It doesn't mean...
00:35:15No, Skyler!
00:35:16Listen to me. Skyler, listen--
00:35:16No, no!
00:35:19There are a lot of angles to this.
00:35:20It's complicated, all right?
00:35:22So please, let's--
00:35:24Please, let's just sit back down and we'll talk it through.
00:35:27I'm gonna make you a deal, Walt.
00:35:31I won't tell Hank and I won't tell your children or anybody else.
00:35:36Nobody will hear it from me.
00:35:38But only if you grant me this divorce and stay out of our lives.
00:35:42No, Skyler--
00:35:42I mean it.
00:35:44Now let me the hell out of here before I throw up.
00:35:58BOY:
00:35:58Take care, buddy.
00:36:04Bye, Jesse.
00:36:22Your windshield's broken.
00:36:28Yeah.
00:36:35Little friction in the marriage right now.
00:36:39Strictly temporary.
00:36:39We're just--
00:36:42We're just taking a little break.
00:36:47That's you, over there.
00:36:51Listen, uh, money.
00:36:54Saul has got it for you, so as soon as you're feeling better--
00:36:58I'm better.
00:37:00You're better?
00:37:00Really?
00:37:04What, the rehab?
00:37:04It-- It helped?
00:37:07Yeah. I'm done using.
00:37:13That's excellent.
00:37:13That's--
00:37:16That's very good, Jesse.
00:37:16Boy, very good.
00:37:22You know, um, in spite of how bad things got, it really could be looked at like a wake-up call for both of us.
00:37:33I mean, you know, just to get our lives back together again and on the straight and narrow.
00:37:45You been following this airplane crash?
00:37:48Yeah.
00:37:52You know it was Jane's dad who accidentally crashed them together because he was so torn up?
00:37:58Okay, look, let me stop you right there, all right?
00:38:02You are not responsible for this.
00:38:05Not in any way, shape or form, all right?
00:38:08Now, I-- I am very up-to-date on this thing, probably far more than you are, and there are-- There many factors at play there.
00:38:17Yeah?
00:38:18For instance, there's some sort of collision radar on the jet that may not have been working properly.
00:38:25Now that's public record.
00:38:25You can look that up.
00:38:28And the whole system is run on 1960s technology.
00:38:32No.
00:38:34No, really,
00:38:34I blame the government.
00:38:40You either run from things or you face them, Mr. White.
00:38:45Well, what exactly does that mean?
00:38:47I learned it in rehab.
00:38:51It's all about accepting who you really are.
00:38:55I accept who I am.
00:38:57And who are you?
00:39:00I'm the bad guy.
00:39:11[PEOPLE SPEAKING
00:39:11INDISTINCTLY]
00:39:20Here's some napkins for you.
00:39:20Enjoy.
00:39:28Is the food to your satisfaction?
00:39:30Very much.
00:39:32It's good to see you again.
00:39:38May I?
00:39:38Please.
00:39:42[SIGHS]
00:39:45I have an offer that I think will be of interest to you.
00:39:51I, uh, actually am not here to--
00:39:58I'm here because I owe you the courtesy and respect to tell you this personally.
00:40:09I'm done.
00:40:13It has nothing to do with you personally.
00:40:17I find you extraordinarily professional, and I appreciate the way you do business.
00:40:22I'm just making a change in my life, is what it is.
00:40:27And I'm...
00:40:29I'm at some--
00:40:29Something of a crossroads, and it's brought me to a realization.
00:40:41I am not a criminal.
00:40:46No offense to any people who are, but this is not me.
00:40:57I'd like you to hear my offer, notwithstanding.
00:41:03It won't change my mind,
00:41:03I'm sorry.
00:41:05Three million dollars for three months of your time.
00:41:12Three months, then out.
00:41:21Three million?
00:41:26May I take this as a "yes"?
00:41:35[SIGHS]
00:41:38I have money. I have more money than I know how to spend.
00:41:43What I don't have is my family.
00:41:49The answer is still no.
00:41:57Enjoy your meal.
00:42:05Thank you.
00:42:31[METALLIC CLANGING]
00:42:40[IN SPANISH]
00:42:40That's it!
00:42:42Did you feel it?
00:42:45Texas!
00:42:47I've made this trip three times, and every time there's three big bumps, and that's how you know.
00:42:54We are officially in Texas!
00:43:03This time I got a job waiting for me.
00:43:05I got a cousin who's got a body shop.
00:43:10Yo, that's for me, homes.
00:43:12They call me "Olive Oil" because I paint them slick.
00:43:17I do pearlescent, color-shift, you name it.
00:43:24I painted cars for some of the biggest gangsters in Michoacán.
00:43:31Wow, those are beautiful boots.
00:43:35Not much good for working, but...
00:43:38Hey, what's on the toes there?
00:43:38Little silver...
00:44:05[GUNSHOTS]
00:44:12[IN ENGLISH]
00:44:12What's going on in there?
00:44:13[GUNSHOTS]
00:45:04[GUNSHOT]
00:46:33[♪♪♪]
