Trials and Tribble-ations
00:00:19Welcome to Deep Space 9.
00:00:20I'm Major Kira. I'm Dulmer.
00:00:22Lucsly. Department of Temporal Investigations.
00:00:25We've been expecting you.
00:00:26DAX: I guess you boys from Temporal Investigations are always on time.
00:00:32Where's Captain Sisko?
00:00:41Are you sure you don't want anything?
00:00:44Just the truth, Captain.
00:00:49You'll get it.
00:00:51Where do you want to start?
00:00:52The beginning.
00:00:53If there is such a thing.
00:00:56Captain, why'd you take the Defiant back in time?
00:00:59It was an accident.
00:01:00So you're not contending it was a predestination paradox?
00:01:04A time loop-- that you were meant to go back into the past.
00:01:08Uh, no.
00:01:10Good. We hate those.
00:01:12So... what happened?
00:01:16This may take some time.
00:01:18Is that a joke?
00:01:20No.
00:01:21Good.
00:01:22We hate those, too.
00:01:23All right, Captain, whenever you're ready.
00:01:27Two weeks ago, the Cardassian government contacted me and wanted to return an Orb to the Bajorans.
00:01:34Orb?
00:01:35They're devices of an alien origin that are considered sacred objects by the Bajoran people.
00:01:40SISKO: Each has a unique property, like the Orb of Prophecy or the Orb of Wisdom.
00:01:45The one we received from the Cardassians was the Orb of Time, although we didn't know that at first.
00:01:51SISKO: But when the Defiant arrived at Cardassia Prime
00:01:55we weren't sure if we were dealing with a genuine Orb
00:01:58or one of the fakes that have cropped up over the years.
00:02:01I had it secured in one of the crew quarters
00:02:03so we could bring it back to Bajor for authentication,
00:02:06but before we left Cardassia,
00:02:09we took on a passenger.
00:02:15Humans!
00:02:19I never thought I'd see another normal face again.
00:02:22This is Mr. Waddle.
00:02:24Yeah, Barry. Call me Barry.
00:02:27We are taking him back to the Federation.
00:02:30He was trapped on Cardassia when the Klingons attacked.
00:02:32WADDLE: I'm a merchant.
00:02:33I deal in gemstones, kevas and trillium mostly.
00:02:36May I?
00:02:37Help yourself.
00:02:39You know what Cardassians drink in the morning?
00:02:41Fish juice-- hot fish juice.
00:02:43Raktajino.
00:02:45After six months,
00:02:46I was hoping the Klingons would invade.
00:02:50Ah, at least they know how to make coffee, even if they are foul-smelling barbarians.
00:02:56S-S-Sorry.
00:03:00I wouldn't take it personally, Worf.
00:03:03I rather like the way you smell.
00:03:05Yeah, sort of earthy, peaty aroma.
00:03:09With a touch of lilac.
00:03:16SISKO: With the Defiant under cloak, we left Cardassian space
00:03:19and managed to avoid being detected by the Klingons.
00:03:23We were halfway home,
00:03:24and I was just starting to breathe easy.
00:03:27Trust me.
00:03:28Next time you see him, just sniff the air and go, "Is that lilac?"
00:03:32No! Find somebody else.
00:03:35I have my own ways of torturing Worf.
00:03:38Don't look at me.
00:03:40( console beeps )
00:03:43I'm picking up a massive surge in chroniton radiation around...
00:03:53What happened?
00:03:54I don't know, but we've dropped out of warp.
00:03:56Sensors are coming back on line.
00:03:58Benjamin, something's very wrong.
00:04:01According to the navigational computer, we're over 200 light-years from our last position.
00:04:06O'BRIEN: We're de-cloaking.
00:04:07Someone's activated the transporter.
00:04:09Deactivate it and get us back under cloak.
00:04:12I'm picking up another ship dead ahead.
00:04:14Can you identify it?
00:04:15DAX: Not yet, but it's close, very close.
00:04:19Chief, I need that viewscreen.
00:04:22I think I've got it.
00:04:31That's...
00:04:33The Enterprise.
00:06:36Be specific, Captain. Which Enterprise?
00:06:38There have been five.
00:06:40Six.
00:06:42This was the first Enterprise, Constitution-class.
00:06:47His ship.
00:06:48James T. Kirk.
00:06:50The one and only.
00:06:5217 separate temporal violations-- the biggest file on record.
00:06:56Man was a menace.
00:06:57What was the date of your arrival?
00:07:00Stardate 4523.7.
00:07:03105 years, one month, 12 days ago.
00:07:05A Friday.
00:07:06What was the Enterprise doing?
00:07:08SISKO: She was orbiting one of the old deep space stations-- K-7,
00:07:12near the Klingon border.
00:07:13Security reported
00:07:15that just before we were thrown back in time,
00:07:17someone stunned the deputy who was guarding the Orb
00:07:19and broke into the cabin.
00:07:21It didn't take us long to realize who it was.
00:07:25His real name is Arne Darvin-- he's a Klingon altered to look human.
00:07:29His surgeon does nice work.
00:07:31We're assuming that he came aboard the Defiant for the express purpose of gaining access to the Orb.
00:07:37Any idea why he brought us back to this point in time?
00:07:39We have a theory.
00:07:42This is Darvin as he appeared during that time period.
00:07:44At this moment he is aboard Space Station K-7 posing as a Federation official.
00:07:49So you're saying he's a spy.
00:07:52ODO: The younger Darvin's mission was to derail Federation colonization efforts by poisoning a shipment of grain which was... which is stored aboard the station.
00:08:03However, 18 hours from now,
00:08:06James Kirk will expose him, and he will be arrested.
00:08:09That arrest will end his career.
00:08:12Klingon Intelligence will turn their back on him, and he will become an outcast.
00:08:16From what we've been able to piece together, he spent the next hundred years eking out a meager living posing as a human merchant.
00:08:23Then, in a final indignity, he was trapped in Cardassian space by the Klingon invasion. Ah.
00:08:31Until he heard rumors about an Orb capable of taking him back in time.
00:08:35So what is he planning to do?
00:08:37Contact his younger self and warn himself about Kirk?
00:08:41He could be planning to kill Kirk.
00:08:44The bottom line is, we have to find Darvin and stop him before he has a chance to alter history.
00:08:49Do we know where he beamed to?
00:08:52No. He wiped the transporter logs when he beamed out.
00:08:55So he could be on the Enterprise or the station.
00:08:58We'll have to search both without raising suspicion or altering the timeline ourselves.
00:09:04The last thing I want is a visit from Temporal Investigations when we get home.
00:09:09I suppose we ought to find a way to blend in.
00:09:25( beeps )
00:09:32Captain.
00:09:33Well... lieutenant, actually.
00:09:36I didn't want to push my luck.
00:09:38O'BRIEN: Looks good on you, sir.
00:09:41Thank you, ensign. Wait a minute.
00:09:44Aren't you two wearing the wrong color?
00:09:46Don't you know anything about this period in time?
00:09:48I'm a doctor, not an historian.
00:09:50In the old days,
00:09:51Operations officers wore red.
00:09:53Command officers wore gold.
00:09:55DAX: And women wore less.
00:10:01I think I'm going to like history.
00:10:03O'BRIEN: The original Enterprise used an old-style duotronic sensor array.
00:10:08If we wait for just the right point in the scan cycle, we can de-cloak the Defiant for almost three seconds without being detected.
00:10:14Is that enough time to transport us aboard?
00:10:16Barely.
00:10:17Chief, here are the coordinates.
00:10:20The captain and I will start on deck four and work our way aft.
00:10:23You and Julian should start on deck 21...
00:10:24And work our way forward.
00:10:27What about the station?
00:10:28Little of it is habitable.
00:10:31Most of K-7 consists of storage areas and industrial fabrication facilities.
00:10:36It shouldn't take long to search.
00:10:37Security isn't as tight as it is on a starship.
00:10:39Remember-- try to avoid contact with people of this time period.
00:10:44We're coming up on a band shift in the scan cycle. Dax.
00:11:36Ready? Deck 21.
00:11:41Deck 21.
00:11:45I said, Deck 21.
00:11:47Maybe if you said please.
00:11:49What's wrong with this thing?
00:11:50Don't ask me.
00:11:52I don't know anything about this time period.
00:11:54Maybe it's jammed.
00:11:55Take that panel off the wall.
00:12:04Deck 15.
00:12:09I won't tell anyone if you don't.
00:12:19They really packed them in on these old ships.
00:12:22What about over there?
00:12:23Perfect.
00:12:25An auxiliary communications juncture.
00:12:27I'll pretend to do repairs.
00:12:28You scan for Darvin.
00:12:30( Sisko whistles )
00:12:32I used to have one of these.
00:12:35Hmm. I love classic 23rd-century design.
00:12:39Black finish... silver highlights.
00:12:42Dax...
00:12:44Sorry.
00:13:27MAN: I don't want any more Spican flame gems.
00:13:29Thanks to you,
00:13:31I already have enough Spican flame gems to last me a lifetime.
00:13:33How sad for you, my friend. You won't find a finer stone anywhere...
00:13:37What's your pleasure?
00:13:41Uh, I'll have a raktajino.
00:13:44You're the second person today who ordered that.
00:13:45What is it?
00:13:47Klingon coffee.
00:13:49The second person?
00:13:50Who was the first?
00:13:51An older man-- a human.
00:13:53Where is he now?
00:13:55I don't know.
00:13:56He left about an hour ago.
00:13:58I think he said he'd be back.
00:14:00We don't have any Klingon beverages.
00:14:03Would you like something else?
00:14:07Um... Tarkalean tea.
00:14:10Okay.
00:14:11JONES: You're a difficult man to reach but I have something from the far reaches of the galaxy.
00:14:17Surely you want--
00:14:18Not at your price.
00:14:19Ooh, what is it?
00:14:21Is it alive?
00:14:22May I hold it?
00:14:24( cooing )
00:14:26UHURA: Oh, it's adorable.
00:14:30What is it?
00:14:40Chief, you're supposed to be working.
00:14:43I'm afraid to touch anything.
00:14:45It's all cross-circuited and patched together.
00:14:48I can't make head nor tails of it.
00:14:50Sounds like one of your repair jobs.
00:14:52( both chuckle )
00:14:53Well, there's no sign of Darvin in this section.
00:14:56I'm going to have to widen the scan radius.
00:14:59If I can figure out how.
00:15:02Well, keep the scan field below 20 milliwatts.
00:15:05Otherwise, you'll set off the internal sensors.
00:15:07Thank you, Chief. I was listening during the mission briefing.
00:15:11What are you two doing here?
00:15:13Scotty told me to do this.
00:15:15Oh, you were going to... do this?
00:15:19It's on the duty roster.
00:15:21Must have been... some mix-up.
00:15:23Isn't that a medical tricorder?
00:15:26Yes. Yes, it is.
00:15:28I'm a doctor.
00:15:30Why do we need a doctor to repair a power relay?
00:15:33You don't... obviously.
00:15:37No. I'm doing a study.
00:15:39It... has to do with... work-related stress.
00:15:44Oh.
00:15:45Why don't you two, um, go on?
00:15:47Pretend I'm not here.
00:15:48So where should we start?
00:15:51Well...
00:15:52( clears throat ) obviously, the... first thing we should do is to take this, uh... this transtator here... and...
00:16:02( equipment powering down )
00:16:05Leave it exactly where it is.
00:16:07BASHIR: The, uh... job pressure's been getting to him.
00:16:11Why don't you take over?
00:16:14All right, Ensign.
00:16:15I think I've seen enough.
00:16:17Let's get you back to Sick Bay.
00:16:18Oh.
00:16:20Oh, uh, I'd appreciate it if you wouldn't mention this to anyone.
00:16:24No problem.
00:16:26Hope you feel better.
00:16:41I have completed my search of the Primary Habitat Level...
00:16:44( cooing )
00:16:46What is that sound?
00:16:47Soothing, isn't it?
00:16:49The bartender called it...
00:16:50( shrill chattering )
00:16:52A tribble.
00:17:03Sit down. You're drawing attention.
00:17:05( tribble cooing )
00:17:11Where did you get that... thing?
00:17:15From a man named Cyrano Jones.
00:17:17He told me tribbles like everyone, but this one doesn't seem to like you.
00:17:22The feeling's...!
00:17:23The feeling's mutual.
00:17:25They are detestable creatures.
00:17:27Hmm. Interesting.
00:17:29It's been my observation that most humanoids love soft, furry animals especially if they make pleasing sounds.
00:17:38They do nothing but consume food and breed.
00:17:41If you feed that thing more than the smallest morsel, in a few hours, you'll have ten tribbles, then a hundred, then a thousand.
00:17:46Calm down.
00:17:47They were once considered mortal enemies of the Klingon Empire.
00:17:50This? ( shrill chattering )
00:17:53A mortal enemy of the Empire?
00:17:57They were an ecological menace, a plague to be wiped out.
00:18:01Wiped out?
00:18:03What are you saying?
00:18:05Hundreds of warriors were sent to track them down throughout the galaxy.
00:18:09An armada obliterated the tribble homeworld.
00:18:12By the end of the 23rd century, they had been eradicated.
00:18:15Hmm. Another glorious chapter of Klingon history.
00:18:19Tell me, do they still sing songs of the great tribble hunt?
00:18:23( chuckles )
00:18:24( alarm blaring )
00:18:28( alarm blaring )
00:18:32What should we do?
00:18:34Get to battle stations.
00:18:47Deck Seven.
00:18:50Let's see if we can find out what's going on.
00:18:53Sisko to Defiant.
00:19:00Sisko to Defiant.
00:19:02KIRA: Defiant here.
00:19:03Report.
00:19:05A Klingon D7 battle cruiser just dropped out of warp.
00:19:07It's approaching the station.
00:19:08Have they locked weapons?
00:19:11Not yet.
00:19:13Kira, can you identify the Klingon vessel?
00:19:18The IKS Gr'oth.
00:19:20That's Koloth's ship.
00:19:22Curzon's old friend?
00:19:23Yes, and he isn't going to attack.
00:19:26I remember Koloth telling me he once traded insults with Kirk on a space station near the Federation border.
00:19:32He always regretted never getting the chance to face him in battle.
00:19:36The Klingon ship just transported two people to the Station Manager's office, Captain.
00:19:41That's Koloth.
00:19:43Maybe we should beam over to the station to help Odo and Worf.
00:19:47We know Darvin was there a few hours ago.
00:19:48I think it might be better if Chief O'Brien and Dr. Bashir go.
00:19:52But if we went, we might run into Koloth.
00:19:56Exactly.
00:19:58It's not as if he would recognize me.
00:20:01I'd love to see him at his prime.
00:20:03Dax.
00:20:04Major, beam the chief and the doctor to K-7 and fill them in.
00:20:09Aye, sir.
00:20:13It would have been fun.
00:20:15Too much fun.
00:20:18SISKO: Dax was right about the Klingons.
00:20:21They were only interested in shore leave,
00:20:23and Captain Kirk allowed them
00:20:25to beam aboard the station in small groups.
00:20:27When the Enterprise stood down from Red Alert,
00:20:29we all resumed our search for Darvin.
00:20:32KIRA: The next band shift in the Enterprise scan cycle will be in three minutes.
00:20:36We'll be ready, Major. O'Brien out.
00:20:39We should find a turbolift.
00:20:52Hello again.
00:20:53Hello.
00:20:59Deck Ten.
00:21:04Your flap's open.
00:21:08Excuse me?
00:21:09On your tricorder.
00:21:12You're draining power.
00:21:14Oh... thank you.
00:21:17He's always doing that.
00:21:20You're a doctor?
00:21:21Yes.
00:21:23I just transferred here from the Lexington last week.
00:21:26Welcome aboard.
00:21:30I'm coming into Sick Bay tomorrow for my physical.
00:21:371500.
00:21:39Lieutenant Watley.
00:21:45You realize, of course, she was just using you to get to me?
00:21:50Watley... that was my great- grandmother's name.
00:21:54Funny.
00:21:56And I think she was in Starfleet.
00:21:58Well, it's a common enough name.
00:21:59But what if that was her?
00:22:01Do you realize the odds?
00:22:04No one ever met my great-grandfather.
00:22:07This could be a predestination paradox.
00:22:09Come on, Chief. Surely you took elementary temporal mechanics at the Academy.
00:22:13I could be destined to fall in love with that woman and become my own great-grandfather.
00:22:21You're being ridiculous.
00:22:22Ridiculous?
00:22:24If I don't meet with her tomorrow, I may never be born!
00:22:26KIRA: Chief, are you ready for transport?
00:22:28Are we ever.
00:22:29Stand by.
00:22:30You saw the way she looked at me.
00:22:32You can't just dismiss this.
00:22:34I can try.
00:22:35All right.
00:22:38Fine, but I can't wait to get back to Deep Space 9 and see your face when you find out that I never existed.
00:22:44( chuckling )
00:22:51SISKO: Dax and I resumed our search for Darvin.
00:22:55Benjamin, look.
00:23:02CHEKOV: Bridge to Captain Kirk.
00:23:07Kirk here. Mr. Baris is waiting on Channel E to speak to you, sir.
00:23:11Keep working. We're a maintenance crew just doing our job.
00:23:14Mr. Baris is coming on.
00:23:16Yes, Mr. Baris, what can I do for you?
00:23:17BARIS: Kirk, this station is swarming with Klingons.
00:23:20I was not aware, Mr. Baris, that 12 Klingons constitutes a swarm.
00:23:24Captain Kirk, I consider your security measures a disgrace.
00:23:28In my opinion, you have taken this entire...
00:23:31I had no idea.
00:23:32What?
00:23:34He's so much more handsome in person.
00:23:37Those eyes.
00:23:38Kirk had quite the reputation as a ladies' man.
00:23:42Not him-- Spock.
00:23:45BARIS: ...free and complete access to this station for that man who just walked out of here--
00:23:50Let's go.
00:23:52Mr. Baris, I have guards around the grain.
00:23:54I have guards around the Klingons.
00:23:57I can't believe you don't at least want to meet Captain Kirk.
00:23:59That's the last thing on my mind.
00:24:01Oh, come on, Benjamin, are you telling me you're not the tiniest bit interested in meeting one of the most famous men in Starfleet history?
00:24:09We have a job to do.
00:24:10But it's... it's James Kirk.
00:24:14Look, of course, I want to meet him.
00:24:16I'd like to shake his hand, ask him about... fighting the Gorn on Cestus III.
00:24:21But that's not why we're here, old man.
00:24:25You're right.
00:24:27I guess the difference between you and me is
00:24:28I remember this time.
00:24:30I lived in this time, and it's... it's hard to not want to be a part of it again.
00:24:52Clearly, we've been going about this search business all wrong, Chief.
00:24:56You're right. Why bother searching
00:24:5930 decks when you can just plunk yourself down at the bar here and wait for Darvin to come to you?
00:25:03We have reason to believe that he'll return to this area.
00:25:07Ah, yes, the raktajino.
00:25:10A vital clue that others might have missed.
00:25:13How fortunate it is that it has kept you stuck at this bar for the past three hours having drinks while we've been crawling through conduits.
00:25:24My God, that's him.
00:25:26Who?
00:25:27Kirk.
00:25:28Where?
00:25:29The one on the left in the gold, just sitting down.
00:25:32That's Kirk?
00:25:38It would be an honor to meet him.
00:25:40Let's buy him a drink.
00:25:42Gentlemen... no one is buying anyone a drink.
00:25:46He's right.
00:25:48We can't risk altering the timeline.
00:25:55What'll it be, boys? And don't ask for raktajino.
00:25:58If I have to say we don't carry that one more...
00:25:59Who ordered a raktajino?
00:26:00The Klingons.
00:26:02Klingons?
00:26:03Over there.
00:26:05And over there.
00:26:09Those are Klingons?
00:26:10All right, you boys have had enough.
00:26:20Mr. Worf?
00:26:25They are Klingons, and it is a long story.
00:26:29What happened?
00:26:31Some kind of genetic engineering?
00:26:32A viral mutation?
00:26:34We do not discuss it with outsiders.
00:26:37( chair scraping )
00:26:39Take it easy, lad.
00:26:41Everybody's entitled to an opinion.
00:26:44That's right, and if I think that Kirk is a Denebian slime devil, well, that's my opinion, too.
00:26:55Don't do it, mister, and that's an order.
00:26:57But you heard what he called the Captain.
00:27:00Look at the way Kirk is ignoring that Klingon.
00:27:02He's letting his security officer handle it.
00:27:04Chief, are you sure that's Kirk?
00:27:06Absolutely.
00:27:07Why is he wearing lieutenant's stripes?
00:27:09KLINGON: ...saggy, old rust...
00:27:11I think we've got bigger problems than a case of mistaken identity.
00:27:14...garbage scow.
00:27:15Half the Quadrant knows it.
00:27:18That's why they're learning to speak Klingonese.
00:27:21( Klingon laughing )
00:27:23Mr. Scott.
00:27:26Laddie... don't you think you should... rephrase that?
00:27:32You're right.
00:27:34I should.
00:27:36I didn't mean to say that the Enterprise should be hauling garbage.
00:27:41I meant to say that it should be hauled away as garbage.
00:27:46( Klingon laughing )
00:28:02What are you doing?
00:28:10( yells )
00:28:12( growling )
00:28:25( grunts )
00:28:44( grunting )
00:29:19It's Darvin!
00:29:49Your men could've avoided that fight, Captain.
00:29:51Regulation 157, Section Three, Paragraph 18:
00:29:54"Starfleet officers shall take all necessary precautions
00:29:58"to minimize any participation in historical events."
00:30:03All right.
00:30:05It was a mistake.
00:30:07But there were no lasting repercussions.
00:30:09How do you know that?
00:30:11For all we know, we could be living in an alternate timeline right now.
00:30:14If my people had caused any changes in the timeline, we would've been the first to notice when we got back.
00:30:20Why do they all have to say that?
00:30:23So... your men were arrested...
00:30:27SISKO: That's right, but instead of being taken to the brig,
00:30:30they were brought in for questioning.
00:30:34I want to know who started it.
00:30:36I'm waiting.
00:30:40Who started the fight?
00:30:41I don't know, sir.
00:30:43All right.
00:30:46Chekov... I know you.
00:30:49You started it, didn't you?
00:30:50No, sir. I didn't.
00:30:51Well, who did?
00:30:52I don't know, sir.
00:30:54"I don't know, sir."
00:30:58I want to know who threw the first punch.
00:31:01All right, you're all confined to quarters until I find out who started it.
00:31:05Dismissed.
00:31:12That was close.
00:31:14Me-- of all the people in the lineup, he asks me who threw the first punch.
00:31:19And you lied to him.
00:31:21I lied to Captain Kirk.
00:31:23I wish Keiko could've been here to see it.
00:31:24( loud squeaking )
00:31:26( cooing )
00:31:28I'm sorry about that, little fellow.
00:31:31Who left you out here all alone?
00:31:38He's not alone.
00:31:44( tribbles cooing )
00:31:56Welcome back, Mr. Darvin.
00:31:59The pleasure is all mine.
00:32:01( grunts )
00:32:02Worf... hold on.
00:32:05I hope you realize you'll be facing some very serious charges when we get back.
00:32:13You wouldn't dare put one of the greatest heroes of the Klingon Empire into the brig.
00:32:20You are no hero to the Empire.
00:32:23I will be.
00:32:24I've been thinking about my statue in the Hall of Warriors.
00:32:27I want it to capture my essence.
00:32:30Our statues can be so... generic sometimes, don't you think?
00:32:35I take it whatever your plan is, you've already set it in motion.
00:32:39I see myself standing with Kirk's head in one hand... and a tribble in the other.
00:32:49What have you done?
00:32:50Did you hire someone to kill him?
00:32:53Did you sabotage the Enterprise?
00:32:55Nothing so mundane.
00:32:57Let's just say that Kirk's death will have a certain poetic justice to it.
00:33:04( laughing )
00:33:06He put a bomb in a tribble?
00:33:08ODO: It's his revenge.
00:33:10Originally, Kirk saw how a tribble reacted to Darvin and realized that he was a Klingon.
00:33:15He wouldn't say where this tribble was, but he did say that it was set to go off within the hour.
00:33:23It could be anywhere.
00:33:24Benjamin, I think we should risk going to the Bridge.
00:33:27If we can use the internal sensors, we can scan the entire ship for explosives in a matter of seconds.
00:33:33Dax and I will take care of the Enterprise.
00:33:36The rest of you beam over to K-7 and start searching there.
00:33:38Understood.
00:33:40But I think Mr. Worf should remain here.
00:33:44It seems he's... allergic to tribbles. All right.
00:33:50O'BRIEN: Captain,
00:33:52I'm not sure we can get to K-7's internal sensors.
00:33:55Then you will have to manually scan every tribble on the station.
00:33:59There must be thousands of them by now.
00:34:00Hundreds of thousands.
00:34:011,771,561.
00:34:06That's starting with one tribble with an average litter of ten every 12 hours.
00:34:10After three days--
00:34:11Thank you.
00:34:14You have your orders, people. Sisko out.
00:34:33( squeaking )
00:34:39( cooing )
00:34:58Dr. McCoy, would you mind coming up to the bridge?
00:35:18I rerouted the sensor interface.
00:35:22It worked.
00:35:24I'm scanning the bridge.
00:35:28Nothing up here.
00:35:30That's a relief.
00:35:32When Kirk sat on that tribble,
00:35:33I half expected it to go off.
00:35:37Nothing on the first six decks.
00:35:42McCOY: Did you want to see me, Jim?
00:35:46Well, don't look at me. It's the tribbles who are breeding.
00:35:49I know him.
00:35:51That must be McCoy, the ship's doctor.
00:35:53McCoy...
00:35:56McCoy...
00:35:59Well, the nearest thing I can figure out is that they're born pregnant... which seems to be quite a time saver.
00:36:05Leonard McCoy.
00:36:08I met him when he was a student at Ole Miss.
00:36:11Who met him-- Curzon?
00:36:12No.
00:36:13My host at the time was Emony.
00:36:15She was on Earth judging a gymnastics competition.
00:36:18I had a feeling he'd become a doctor.
00:36:22He had the hands of a surgeon.
00:36:30I've scanned every deck.
00:36:32The bomb's not aboard the ship.
00:36:34Then it must be somewhere on K-7.
00:37:10( cooing )
00:37:23( com link beeps ) Odo here.
00:37:26The bomb's not on the Enterprise; it must be over there.
00:37:28We've only been able to get through two decks.
00:37:31We're running out of time. I can send more teams from the Defiant.
00:37:33It's not a question of manpower.
00:37:35It's a question of multiplication.
00:37:37The tribbles are breeding so fast we can't keep up with them.
00:37:39Benjamin, maybe we could narrow things down a little.
00:37:42Presumably, Darvin put the bomb somewhere he knows Kirk is going to be in the next half an hour, so if we stick close to Kirk...
00:37:49He might lead us right to it.
00:37:51It's worth a try, but there's no reason for us to stop searching over here.
00:37:55Keep at it for now, Constable.
00:37:57Deck Five.
00:38:16This is my chicken sandwich and coffee.
00:38:19I want these things off the ship.
00:38:21I don't care if it takes every man we've got. I want them off the ship.
00:38:26Aye, they're into the machinery, all right, and they're probably in all the other food processors, too.
00:38:32How?
00:38:33Probably through one of the air vents.
00:38:34Captain, there are vents of that type on the space station.
00:38:38KIRK: And in the storage compartments.
00:38:39Storage compartments.
00:38:41Storage compartments.
00:38:43KIRK: ...meet us near the storage compartments.
00:38:45We're beaming down.
00:39:00Most of these are dead.
00:39:02The grain's poisoned.
00:39:04I'm picking up a faint tricobalt signature.
00:39:06The bomb's under here somewhere.
00:39:11( beeping ) What's that?
00:39:13It's not working, sir. It seems to be stuck.
00:39:15Here, let me try.
00:39:19Someone's trying to open the bay door.
00:39:22( beeping )
00:39:26( beeping )
00:39:33( beeping )
00:39:48Benjamin, it's right here in front of us.
00:40:05( sighs )
00:40:09They seem to be gorged.
00:40:11Gorged?! On my grain?!
00:40:14Kirk, I am going to hold you responsible!
00:40:17Must be thousands of them.
00:40:19Hundreds of thousands.
00:40:211,771,561.
00:40:24That's assuming one tribble multiplying with an average litter of ten producing a new generation every 12 hours over a period of three days.
00:40:32( tricorder beeps )
00:40:33I found it.
00:40:41Sisko to Defiant.
00:40:42Go ahead, Captain.
00:40:43I found the bomb.
00:40:44Lock on to my tricorder signal and beam it into space.
00:40:47Acknowledged.
00:41:10Kira to Sisko.
00:41:12It worked.
00:41:14KIRK: And as Captain, I want two things done.
00:41:16First, find Cyrano Jones... and second... close that door.
00:41:23SISKO: After the bomb was detonated,
00:41:26history continued uninterrupted.
00:41:27And thanks to the tribbles,
00:41:29Kirk was able to uncover the truth about Darvin.
00:41:32( shrill chattering )
00:41:35They don't like you, Mr. Darvin.
00:41:37I wonder why? Bones?
00:41:46Jim, this man is a Klingon.
00:41:54SISKO: By the time we returned to the Defiant,
00:41:56Major Kira had discovered how to use the Orb
00:41:58to bring us back to our own time.
00:42:01And that's when you returned to the present?
00:42:03Well... not exactly.
00:42:09Before we left,
00:42:10I realized there was one last thing I had to do--
00:42:15something I'd been thinking about
00:42:17ever since I saw that ship on the viewscreen.
00:42:21Excuse me, Captain.
00:42:23Here's tomorrow's duty roster for your approval.
00:42:25Lieutenant, uh... Lieutenant...
00:42:28Benjamin Sisko, sir.
00:42:29I've been on temporary assignment here.
00:42:31Before I leave, I just want to say... it's been an honor serving with you, sir.
00:42:39All right, lieutenant, carry on.
00:42:41Thank you, sir.
00:42:46Now... if you want to put a letter of reprimand in my file for that, then go ahead.
00:42:55We'll have to review the case before making any recommendations.
00:42:59However, I don't think there was any harm done.
00:43:03Probably would have done the same thing myself.
00:43:11You'll be receiving our report in about a month.
00:43:13But based on what you've told us,
00:43:16I don't think you have anything to worry about.
00:43:18I'm glad to hear it.
00:43:20Good-bye, Captain. Good-bye.
00:43:26Docking Port Seven.
00:43:32It went well?
00:43:35Good.
00:43:37The Constable wants to see us on the Promenade.
00:43:41Did you tell them?
00:43:44They didn't ask.
00:43:47I'm open to suggestions, people.
00:43:50We could build another station.
00:43:59( tribbles cooing )
