Empok Nor
00:00:08Welcome, welcome, welcome.
00:00:11It's a little quiet in here.
00:00:13Oh, you just beat the rush.
00:00:15Uh, let me get your order before, uh... before I get swamped.
00:00:20DAX: I'll have a Til'amin froth.
00:00:22I'll have a...
00:00:23( loud drilling noise )
00:00:25What was that?
00:00:26What was what?!
00:00:28Oh, that! That's, uh...
00:00:30( noise stops ) just my nephew and Chief O'Brien repairing some conduit.
00:00:35You'll get used to it.
00:00:36( noise resumes )
00:00:38The Klingon restaurant.
00:00:40It would be quieter.
00:00:51When are you two going to be done in there?
00:00:53When the conduit is repaired and brought back up to safety specs.
00:00:57Well, hurry up before I lose all my customers.
00:00:59I need to get something. What?
00:01:03Two root beers.
00:01:06( noise resumes )
00:01:08Aah...
00:01:13Hyperspanner.
00:01:21Optronic coupler.
00:01:33How did you know I was going to ask for a phase decompiler?
00:01:36I was paying attention, sir.
00:01:38That you were, Cadet.
00:01:40My father says I can learn a lot from you.
00:01:42He says you can fix anything.
00:01:44I'm an engineer.
00:01:46That's what we do.
00:01:47There.
00:01:51Good as new.
00:01:52Amazing.
00:01:53( yelling, coughing )
00:01:55O'BRIEN: Damn!
00:01:57We repaired the leak right away, but the problem was worse than I thought.
00:02:00The entire plasma distribution manifold is shot.
00:02:03Can you replicate a new one?
00:02:04No. Cardassian manifolds use a beta-matrix compositor which can't be replicated.
00:02:10Well, I suppose we could contact Gul Dukat and ask him if he has any spare manifold systems lying around.
00:02:16I'm sure he'd jump at the chance to help us.
00:02:19Any other ideas?
00:02:20We could send a salvage team to the abandoned Cardassian station in the Trivas system.
00:02:25Empok Nor. It's the same design as this station.
00:02:28The Cardassians pulled out about a year ago, but there's good chance that the plasma manifold system is still operational.
00:02:33What about Dominion activity in the area?
00:02:36There hasn't been any for several months.
00:02:38Strategically, they seem to have lost interest in that sector.
00:02:41But there is one problem.
00:02:43It's standard Cardassian procedure to booby-trap a facility before abandoning it, and a lot of the surprises they leave behind are specifically keyed to attack non-Cardassians.
00:02:54Sounds like you should take a Cardassian along.
00:02:57O'BRIEN: So, what did Captain Sisko do to persuade you to come along?
00:02:59How do you know I didn't volunteer?
00:03:01( laughs ) He threatened you, didn't he?
00:03:03Nothing so coarse. The Captain bribed me.
00:03:05He offered to help me procure a larger space for my workshop.
00:03:08The latest dressmaking equipment is surprisingly bulky.
00:03:11Well, whatever he did, I'm glad you're here.
00:03:15What's the matter?
00:03:16Well, it's just that lately
00:03:18I've noticed everyone seems to trust me.
00:03:20It's quite unnerving. I'm still trying to get used to it.
00:03:23Next thing I know, people are going to be inviting me to their homes for dinner.
00:03:26Well, if it makes you feel any better,
00:03:28I promise I will never have you over.
00:03:30I appreciate that, Chief. Ah, don't mention it.
00:03:33Anything to return the favor.
00:03:35Disarming Cardassian booby traps is my least favorite kind of engineering.
00:03:38GARAK: I can certainly understand that, but don't worry. I have some experience in that area.
00:03:44Booby traps?
00:03:45I can't believe I let you talk me into volunteering for this.
00:03:49Well, it beats working on the waste extraction system.
00:03:51Besides, how often does an engineer get to wear a phaser?
00:03:54Hate to disappoint you, Pechetti, but the only thing you're going to be using that for is shooting voles.
00:04:00Empok Nor's been abandoned so long they're going to be hungry.
00:04:05Don't worry.
00:04:06You play with your wrenches.
00:04:07We'll watch your backs.
00:04:17Can I help you, Cadet?
00:04:19I'm reporting for duty... sir.
00:04:23Welcome aboard, Cadet.
00:04:25Thank you, sir. And may I say, it's a privilege to be here, sir.
00:04:28You've earned it.
00:04:30But one more "sir," and I'll leave you behind.
00:04:33Very well, s... Chief.
00:04:36Let's get going.
00:04:38Next stop: Empok Nor.
00:06:44( dice clattering on board )
00:06:48GARAK: What are you doing?
00:06:50NOG: Regrouping.
00:06:51But you're losing.
00:06:53That's why I need to protect my assets.
00:06:55This is not a financial transaction.
00:06:57Protecting your assets is what got you into trouble in the first place. You have to go on the offensive.
00:07:02You have to attack.
00:07:04Your move. Oh, this is maddening.
00:07:07Asking a Ferengi to play a Cardassian game is like asking a Klingon to chew with his mouth closed.
00:07:14Kotra is not about "regrouping" or hoarding "assets."
00:07:18It's about bold strategy and decisive action.
00:07:21Chief, would you like to take on the winner?
00:07:24I'd love to play kotra against the hero of Setlik III.
00:07:28What is that supposed to mean?
00:07:29Oh, we all know your distinguished war record-- how you led two dozen men against the Barrica encampment and took out an entire regiment of Cardassians.
00:07:38If you play kotra with half that brazenness, we'd have quite a match.
00:07:43I'm not a soldier anymore. I'm an engineer.
00:07:46I see. So when you and Dr. Bashir go into the holosuites for hours at a time, you're just repairing them?
00:07:53What's your point, Garak?
00:07:54I'm just curious. Why do you and Dr. Bashir spend hours in the holosuites, dressed as fighter pilots, reliving ancient battles?
00:08:01We... do it for fun.
00:08:04It's a game.
00:08:05And so is kotra.
00:08:10And I'd love nothing more than to play against a man like you.
00:08:15Maybe some other time.
00:08:21Chief, here's the wish list you wanted.
00:08:24Three categories. "Must-have"-- which includes the manifolds and plasma recoilers.
00:08:29"Could-use"-- things like, uh, EPS matrix converters.
00:08:31And "would-be-nice"-- bypass displacers, polarity maximizers, that sort of thing.
00:08:36Cardassian emblems and insignias?
00:08:39Well, a low priority, but if we happen to find some--
00:08:43This is a salvage operation, Pechetti, not an opportunity to indulge your collecting obsession.
00:08:48Right.
00:09:03Approaching Empok Nor, sir.
00:09:05Take us out of warp.
00:09:08Run a full scan.
00:09:09I'll take the helm.
00:09:11NOG: The station's main power supply and life-support systems are off-line.
00:09:15No life signs.
00:09:17I'll take us into transporter range.
00:09:19Oh, I don't think we can risk beaming aboard.
00:09:21There are probably pattern scramblers rigged to go off if they detect a non-Cardassian transporter signal.
00:09:27That could be messy. We'll have to dock.
00:09:30Landing pads are sealed.
00:09:33We'll have to try an upper pylon.
00:09:34Won't the airlock have booby traps?
00:09:36You can count on it. And someone is going to have to disarm them before we dock.
00:09:41I volunteer, sir.
00:09:42The scanner in the airlock might mistake your enthusiasm as Cardassian... but not your DNA.
00:09:48No, I'm afraid I'm the only one who has a chance of getting through.
00:10:06( air hissing, thumping )
00:10:12( thumping footsteps )
00:10:16( mechanism clicking )
00:10:27( clattering )
00:10:31( keypad beeping )
00:10:33( equipment powering up )
00:10:43( static )
00:10:52( equipment beeping softly )
00:11:12( footsteps )
00:11:15Ah, welcome to Empok Nor.
00:11:18Thanks for having us.
00:11:19Take whatever you need.
00:11:21My house is your house.
00:11:23All right, listen up.
00:11:25We're going to break up into three teams.
00:11:28Nog and Stolzoff, you're with me.
00:11:30We'll do the "must-haves."
00:11:31Pechetti and Amaro, you'll do the "could-use."
00:11:33Boq'ta and Garak-- "would-be-nice."
00:11:36Garak has disabled the central security net, but there could be booby traps anywhere.
00:11:41Don't move into an area until you've scanned it.
00:11:43If you see something that isn't right, don't touch it.
00:11:46Call for help. All right, let's go.
00:12:32Ugh. What's this?
00:12:40It's a biogenic compound.
00:12:43I wonder where it came from.
00:12:47Follow me.
00:13:07These look like stasis tubes.
00:13:19( grunting )
00:13:32Cardassian.
00:13:33He's been dead for about a year.
00:13:36Hey, look at this.
00:13:41Interesting. A regimental badge.
00:13:44Third Battalion, First Order, if I'm not mistaken.
00:13:49This is going to make Pechetti's day.
00:13:51Both those tubes have been activated recently.
00:13:58Coil spanner.
00:14:05Flux-coupler.
00:14:09Uh-oh. Flux-coupler.
00:14:12I left it on the runabout.
00:14:13I'll go get it right away, sir--
00:14:15I mean, Chief.
00:14:19( weary exhalation )
00:14:21Garak to O'Brien. Go ahead.
00:14:24Could you come down to the Infirmary?
00:14:26There's something you should see.
00:14:28On my way.
00:14:42That's not right.
00:14:46( gasps )
00:14:58A runabout doesn't disengage from its docking clamps and blow up all on its own.
00:15:02Which leads me to believe that the former occupants of these chambers are up and about.
00:15:06If you're telling me that there are two Cardassian soldiers from the Third Battalion loose on this station, we're in trouble.
00:15:13"Death to all." That was their motto.
00:15:16Three simple words, and they certainly sum up their credo nicely.
00:15:20Why would the Cardassians abandon this station and leave behind a few soldiers in stasis tubes?
00:15:25Why do you think? To guard it.
00:15:28The tubes were probably rigged to wake them up as soon as someone came aboard.
00:15:31Well, that's possible, but one thing's for sure-- they're out there somewhere and considering what they did to the runabout
00:15:38I don't think they're too friendly.
00:15:40Maybe they're just upset because we haven't introduced ourselves.
00:15:43We should find them. Say hello.
00:15:48This thing's not working.
00:15:51Neither is mine.
00:15:54They must have set up a dampening field.
00:15:55We've got to get out of here. Let's call for help.
00:15:58How? The station's subspace transceiver was ripped out when the Cardassians evacuated.
00:16:03Well, we could always try sending smoke signals.
00:16:06That's not a bad idea.
00:16:10The deflector grid is still relatively intact.
00:16:14If we could modify the field coils to emit a series of covariant pulses--
00:16:19We could use the station like an old-fashioned telegraph and tap out an S.O.S.
00:16:24O'BRIEN: For the pulses to be strong enough to reach Deep Space 9 we'll have to boost power to the induction grid.
00:16:30Pechetti, you go down to the Habitat Ring and bring the microfusion reactor back on line.
00:16:37Stolzoff, you go with him.
00:16:39Boq'ta, realign the magnetic flow field in Conduit G-4.
00:16:45Amaro will watch your back.
00:16:47Nog and Garak, you're with me.
00:16:49We'll set up the signal generator in Cargo Bay 4.
00:16:53NOG: Aye, Chief.
00:16:54Use your communicators as little as possible.
00:16:56We don't want to give away our positions.
00:16:58Any questions?
00:17:03Let's go.
00:17:10Well, I'm not convinced Stolzoff was right about our Cardassian friends.
00:17:13Why would anyone voluntarily seal themselves into a stasis tube-- perhaps for years-- just to guard an abandoned station?
00:17:22Even the Third Battalion isn't that fanatical.
00:17:25Something else is going on.
00:17:27O'BRIEN: Maybe so, but I don't intend to be here long enough to find out what it is.
00:17:31GARAK: That's the trouble with humans.
00:17:33You don't know how to appreciate a good mystery.
00:17:35O'BRIEN: I love a good mystery... the kind I can read in bed-- not the kind that's trying to kill you.
00:17:40GARAK: Don't get me wrong, Chief.
00:17:42I want to get off this station as much as you do, but I just know if I don't figure this out, it's going to nag at me for days.
00:17:49O'BRIEN: All right, now, let's concentrate on finishing the signal modulator so that we can get out of here.
00:17:55You have the whole trip home to sort out your mystery.
00:18:00Nog? I need your help with the phase discriminator.
00:18:03On my way, Chief.
00:18:14( tool whirring )
00:18:32Do you mind not aiming that at me?
00:18:35Don't worry, the safety's on.
00:18:41( sighing )
00:18:50Tell me you did that.
00:18:55( turbolift whirring )
00:19:03( turbolift stopping )
00:19:06( no audio )
00:19:11( turbolift opens )
00:19:33Maybe I did activate the turbolift without realizing it.
00:19:39I'm going up.
00:19:41Okay.
00:20:06Whoa.
00:20:11( yelling )
00:20:15Pechetti!
00:20:16Stolzoff to O'Brien! A Cardass--
00:20:19( grunting )
00:20:21( scream, thud )
00:20:22Stolzoff?
00:20:25Stolzoff!
00:20:45( sighing )
00:20:55( glass crunching underfoot )
00:21:12BOQ'TA: The Cardassians must've surprised them.
00:21:15They're probably using the internal sensors to track us.
00:21:18Take it easy. We're going to get out of here, you can count on that.
00:21:21But we've got to stay focused.
00:21:25It looks like Pechetti was almost done getting the microfusion reactor back on line.
00:21:30I'll finish that and then I'll go back down to the cargo bay.
00:21:33How are you doing with the conduits?
00:21:35I-I'm done.
00:21:37Good. Now, you and Amaro get down to Auxiliary Control and reconfigure the pulse generator.
00:21:42We're going to split up? We have to.
00:21:44If we don't send out a signal, we're never going to get off this station.
00:21:48But, Chief, what if we-- I need you, Boq'ta.
00:21:51You can do this.
00:21:52Don't worry. I'll watch your back.
00:21:54Stolzoff was supposed to be watching Pechetti's back.
00:21:57Look what happened to them.
00:21:58What if I send Garak with you, too?
00:22:00Would that make you feel better?
00:22:03I'm flattered. But I'm afraid I have other plans.
00:22:06What are you talking about?
00:22:08I don't intend to stand around waiting to be killed. Meaning what?
00:22:13Meaning I'm going after those two Cardassian soldiers... and neutralize them.
00:22:18Besides, all this whining is giving me a headache.
00:22:23AMARO: You're going to have more than a headache if you don't do what the Chief wants.
00:22:27Amaro...
00:22:29You'd like to shoot me, wouldn't you?
00:22:33You're dying to kill a Cardassian-- any Cardassian.
00:22:37Let him go.
00:22:42If he thinks he can neutralize the Cardassians, let him try.
00:22:45He'll be doing us all a favor.
00:22:47That's the spirit.
00:22:49Why don't you come with me, Chief?
00:22:52Kill a few "Cardies."
00:22:54It'll be like old times.
00:22:56Wouldn't you like to avenge their deaths?
00:22:58No.
00:23:00I just want to get everyone home.
00:23:02You're fighting your instincts, I can see it, but the hero of Setlik III is still inside there somewhere.
00:23:11If you're going to go, go.
00:23:21Nog, you go with Boq'ta and Amaro.
00:23:24Aye, sir.
00:23:26It's all right, Chief.
00:23:28He can stay with you.
00:23:30For some reason, knowing Garak's going after those Cardassians makes me feel better.
00:23:52( terminal beeping )
00:23:53"Access denied." "Access denied."
00:23:56Don't you know how to say anything else?
00:23:59( sighs ): Apparently not.
00:24:02( distant mechanical thump )
00:24:06( terminal beeping ) "Access denied."
00:24:11"Access denied."
00:24:14"Access denied."
00:24:17"Access denied"-- how monotonous.
00:25:15Looking for me?
00:25:16( yells )
00:25:19Oh, that felt... good.
00:25:27Chief, why does Garak keep bringing up Setlik III?
00:25:32Because he wants to get under my skin.
00:25:34But you were a hero, weren't you?
00:25:36That doesn't mean I like thinking about what happened then.
00:25:40I was a soldier, Nog.
00:25:42Sometimes soldiers have to kill.
00:25:44GARAK: Come now, Chief, don't be so modest.
00:25:48You did a lot of killing.
00:25:51How did you get in here? Both doors are secure.
00:25:53"Secure" is such a relative term, wouldn't you agree?
00:25:57I've brought you something.
00:25:59If you don't mind.
00:26:03I'm sure Pechetti would've appreciated it more, but...
00:26:06Where did you get this?
00:26:08From its former owner.
00:26:10You killed one of the soldiers?
00:26:12One down, one to go.
00:26:14By the way, I took a tissue sample from the soldier's body.
00:26:17The analysis was rather fascinating, in a grim sort of way.
00:26:21It seems the unfortunate soul had been given a massive dose of psychotropic drugs.
00:26:25Why? I'm not sure, but I can tell you one thing-- it wasn't to make him amicable.
00:26:31The drug's protein structure seems designed to amplify my people's xenophobic tendencies.
00:26:37My guess is that the soldiers that were left here were part of a Cardassian military experiment.
00:26:42The High Command was probably looking for a way to further motivate their troops.
00:26:48So they gave them a drug to make them hate anybody but Cardassians.
00:26:53Then why did they attack you?
00:26:54That's a good question.
00:26:57Maybe it's an experiment that went wrong.
00:26:59That's why they were left in stasis.
00:27:01They were uncontrollable.
00:27:03I'd love to stay and hypothesize all afternoon, but once I've set my mind to a task,
00:27:07I hate to leave it unfinished.
00:27:13What is it, Chief?
00:27:14You look different.
00:27:16How so?
00:27:18That's not the face of a tailor.
00:27:20I'm not a tailor.
00:27:24Not for the moment, anyway.
00:27:32You know...
00:27:34I once bought a suit from Garak.
00:27:36Turns out the sleeve was a little long.
00:27:41I remember being angry when I brought it back to be fixed.
00:27:44Is there a point to this story?
00:27:47If I'd known he was so dangerous,
00:27:49I never would've complained.
00:27:53You think he'll get the other Cardassian?
00:27:55I hope not. I want to get him myself.
00:27:58BOQ'TA: I don't blame you.
00:28:00AMARO: Stolzoff was my friend.
00:28:03We were at the Academy together.
00:28:07She was my sparring partner.
00:28:09The first time we faced off,
00:28:12I remember thinking maybe I ought to take it easy on her.
00:28:16She ended up taking me down so hard, it knocked the wind out of me.
00:28:20( tool buzzing )
00:28:22That was the last time I ever pulled a punch with her.
00:28:27She had this one-two combination-- a feint to the right, a back-handed chop to the neck-- faked me out every time.
00:28:34If that spoon-head gives me the chance, maybe I'll just try that out on him.
00:28:39I think Stolzoff would've liked that.
00:28:44( frustrated grunts )
00:28:46I can't get this loose.
00:28:49Get me the coil spanner, would you?
00:29:01What does it look like?
00:29:03It's got two pointy things on the end.
00:29:04( Boq'ta screams )
00:29:06( grunting and choking )
00:29:17( grunt, thud )
00:29:22( Amaro panting )
00:29:33He asked me to get a coil spanner for him.
00:29:38I just turned my back for a second.
00:29:44That's a shame.
00:29:47And the worst part of it is... this isn't a coil spanner.
00:29:54( gasping )
00:29:56It's a flux-coupler.
00:30:15That should do it.
00:30:17O'Brien to Boq'ta.
00:30:21Boq'ta, come in.
00:30:24Amaro, what's going on up there?
00:30:39( labored gasp )
00:30:40H-he's out there.
00:30:42Easy now, easy. Who's out there?
00:30:45Garak! He stabbed me.
00:30:50( labored breathing )
00:30:59Chief, why would Garak do this?
00:31:06Come on.
00:31:09He may still be close by.
00:31:33It doesn't make any sense.
00:31:36Garak's on our side.
00:31:38Not anymore.
00:31:46The psychotropic drug.
00:31:49He must have been exposed to it.
00:31:52It's the only explanation.
00:31:54I should've seen it earlier.
00:31:58The way he accused Amaro of wanting to kill him.
00:32:01The way he insisted on going after those Cardassians.
00:32:05He's coming after us, isn't he?
00:32:10Yes.
00:32:11Maybe we can reason with him.
00:32:14Get him to try to understand that the drug is affecting him.
00:32:17You saw what he did to Amaro and the others.
00:32:19He's not going to listen to us.
00:32:21Then we have to finish setting up the deflector grid.
00:32:24We've got to get a distress signal out.
00:32:26Garak knows what we're trying to do. He'll stop us.
00:32:29Don't we have to try?
00:32:31Forget it!
00:32:33I've already lost four crewmen trying to send out that bloody signal.
00:32:38Garak was right.
00:32:40We should have gone after those Cardassians as soon as they attacked us.
00:32:45You don't wait for the enemy to come to you.
00:32:47You go to him.
00:32:50Come on.
00:32:53We're going after Garak.
00:32:55Y-you mean, to kill him?
00:32:58If that's what it takes to stop him, yes.
00:33:20GARAK ( sing-songy ): I know you're hiding somewhere...
00:33:24Ah. There you are.
00:33:32Garak to Chief O'Brien.
00:33:37You'll never guess what I just found.
00:33:40A kotra board.
00:33:42The Station Commander left one in his office.
00:33:44The pieces were scattered all over, but I found the last one hiding under his desk.
00:33:51I can't help thinking what a perfect metaphor this game is for our present situation, hmm?
00:33:56Two players, two minds, two strategies, each trying to outmaneuver the other-- testing the enemy's defenses, advancing, retreating.
00:34:06O'BRIEN: We split up. Enter Ops through the main corridor.
00:34:08I'll go through the Captain's office. Wait for my signal.
00:34:11...that, in the game we're playing the stakes are life and death, which makes it so much more interesting.
00:34:17( laughing ): I haven't had this much fun in years.
00:34:21My heart's pounding.
00:34:23The blood's racing through my veins.
00:34:25I feel so alive... and I'd wager, so do you.
00:34:34( grunts quietly )
00:34:36( static from monitors )
00:34:54( rapid breathing )
00:35:14( grunting )
00:35:15( yelling )
00:35:23It looks like I've captured your last piece, Chief.
00:35:26If you want it back, you're going to have to take it from me.
00:36:00GARAK: It's your move, Chief.
00:36:01What are you going to do?
00:36:03Attack? Retreat? Surrender?
00:36:05Listen to me, Garak, it's the drug.
00:36:07It's affecting you. You've got to fight it.
00:36:10Fight it? ( laughs )
00:36:11But I'm enjoying myself.
00:36:13This is the most exciting game I've played in years.
00:36:16O'BRIEN: It's not a game!
00:36:17Oh, but it is, and the best thing about it is that it brings out the player's true nature.
00:36:21Where are you, Garak?!
00:36:22I saw the look in your eyes when I took the Ferengi away from you.
00:36:25You wanted to kill me.
00:36:27You wanted to strangle me with your bare hands.
00:36:30I just want my crewman back, that's all.
00:36:33You're a killer, admit it.
00:36:35We both are. Behind your Federation mask of decency and benevolence, you're a predator, just like me.
00:36:43No, I'm nothing like you.
00:36:45Oh, but you are. You proved that on Setlik III.
00:36:47How many Cardassians did you kill?
00:36:49Ten? 20? 100?
00:36:51I don't remember.
00:36:52Oh, but you remember how you felt.
00:36:54The Cardassians were killing your men.
00:36:56You had to stop them. You had to make them pay.
00:36:58Blood for blood!
00:37:00You enjoyed killing them, didn't you, huh?
00:37:04You enjoyed watching the life drain out of their eyes.
00:37:08All right, Garak, you want to finish this game?
00:37:10Fine, let's finish it.
00:37:12You and me, face to face.
00:37:14Nothing would give me greater pleasure.
00:37:17We'll meet on the Promenade.
00:37:19No weapons!
00:37:21No weapons.
00:37:25You have no idea how hard it is to keep from pulling this trigger, but I need you alive.
00:39:00GARAK: They've come to cheer you on, Chief-- your loyal team.
00:39:04Apparently, they've forgiven you for getting them all killed.
00:39:09My supporters may be fewer in number but they're no less loyal.
00:39:16I thought we agreed, no weapons.
00:39:22What's that in your hand?
00:39:23Well, how did this get here?
00:39:31Put yours down.
00:39:32You first.
00:39:34Put it down... or say good-bye to the Ferengi.
00:39:37Don't do it, Chief.
00:39:39Oh, he has nothing to worry about.
00:39:41I'm not going to shoot an unarmed man.
00:39:43What fun would that be?
00:39:52You wouldn't happen to have another one, would you?
00:40:00Naughty, naughty.
00:40:14Your turn.
00:40:16I admit I am tempted to end this right now.
00:40:22But that would be depriving myself of too much enjoyment.
00:40:43( grunting )
00:40:50I'm disappointed, Chief.
00:40:52I expected to see the bloodlust in your eyes but all I see is fear.
00:41:05( groans loudly )
00:41:11Maybe it's true.
00:41:13Maybe you're not a soldier anymore.
00:41:16You're right.
00:41:18I'm an engineer.
00:41:20( combadge beeps )
00:41:21( electronic buzzing )
00:41:23( grunting )
00:41:32You okay, Nog?
00:41:35I'm all right, sir.
00:42:03Is he dead?
00:42:05Did you kill him?
00:42:07No...
00:42:09I didn't.
00:42:19He should be all right in a few days.
00:42:22I've neutralized the psychotropic compound that was affecting his nervous system.
00:42:27He looks so peaceful.
00:42:29It's hard to believe he's the same man who attacked us.
00:42:35In a way, he's not.
00:42:37The drug brought out the worst parts of him and allowed them to take over.
00:42:42He wasn't in control of his actions.
00:42:47Can I talk to him?
00:42:48For a minute.
00:43:09I thought you might like to know that we salvaged the plasma manifold.
00:43:14It's being installed right now.
00:43:16Mission accomplished.
00:43:20I guess it didn't exactly go the way any of us expected.
00:43:26You know there's going to be an inquest.
00:43:29Yes. I've been told that.
00:43:33Chief, I was hoping to ask a favor.
00:43:36Don't worry, once they know the facts--
00:43:37It's not about that.
00:43:41I'd like you to express my... deepest regrets to Amaro's wife.
00:43:48I'd talk to her myself but I'm not sure she'd welcome that.
00:43:53I'll tell her.
00:43:54I'd appreciate it.
00:43:57Julian tells me the blast broke a couple of your ribs.
00:44:00Well, it could have been worse.
00:44:01If I'd been any closer to that phaser it would have killed me.
00:44:05Don't take this the wrong way, but... that was the plan.
00:44:09I understand.
00:44:14See you around.
