00:00:08Report.
00:00:10There's an object of some kind closing in on our position.
00:00:13On screen.
00:00:16DATA: It appears to be an unmanned probe.
00:00:18Approximately one-half meter in diameter.
00:00:21There are no identifiable armaments.
00:00:23Captain, we are being...
00:00:26You are being hailed, by name.
00:00:29Open a channel.
00:00:31This is Captain Jean-Luc Picard of...
00:00:33Captain, I am reading a power surge.
00:00:36Shields up.
00:00:40DATA: The beam appears to contain holographic imaging information.
00:00:44It's trying to project something.
00:00:46Isolate the bandwidth.
00:00:47Let the signal through the shields.
00:00:54Bok.
00:00:55I trust you remember me, Picard, because I haven't forgotten you or how you murdered my son.
00:01:02For 15 years now, I've thought about how to avenge his death, but nothing I could do to you could equal what you did to me-- until now.
00:01:11You thought you could hide him from me, didn't you?
00:01:14But I found out about him.
00:01:15Jason Vigo is as good as dead.
00:01:18I'm going to kill your son, Picard, just like you killed mine.
00:01:59Space, the final frontier.
00:02:04These are the voyages of the Starship Enterprise.
00:02:08Its continuing mission--
00:02:10to explore strange new worlds,
00:02:14to seek out new life and new civilizations,
00:02:18to boldly go where no one has gone before.
00:03:20Mr. Worf, put a tractor beam on that probe.
00:03:23Determine if it's safe to beam it on board.
00:03:25I want to know where it came from.
00:03:28Mr. Data, see if there is any mention of a Jason Vigo in Federation records.
00:03:33You might start with Miranda Vigo.
00:03:37She was born on New Gaul about 50 years ago.
00:03:40Aye, sir.
00:03:42Number one, contact the Ferengi government.
00:03:45Find out all you can about Bok.
00:03:46He was wearing a daimon's uniform.
00:03:48If he has regained his rank, I want to know why.
00:04:01( door chimes )
00:04:03Come.
00:04:04The Ferengi government is debating an amendment to the Rules of Acquisition.
00:04:09It could be a while before we hear from them.
00:04:14Data found out that the woman you mentioned has a son named Jason.
00:04:19This is the most recent picture we could find.
00:04:27( sighs )
00:04:29How old is the boy now?
00:04:30Twenty-three.
00:04:33He and his mother left Earth 12 years ago.
00:04:35They settled on Camor V. That's all we know.
00:04:38The planet's records are virtually nonexistent.
00:04:42Picard to Bridge.
00:04:44Set a course for the Camor System, warp five.
00:04:47Aye, sir.
00:04:51Will...
00:04:54I do appreciate your not asking but I do think you have a right to know.
00:05:01There is a possibility that the boy is my son.
00:05:05I was involved with his mother for a short time about... well, 24 years ago.
00:05:14We met through a friend when I was on shore leave on Earth.
00:05:18It was, uh... all very romantic, very intense, probably because we both knew that I would be leaving in two weeks.
00:05:29And we kept in touch for a while, but we never managed to get together again.
00:05:36She never said anything to you about being pregnant?
00:05:40No.
00:05:41So either Bok is wrong, and I'm not the father, or Miranda decided to raise the child alone.
00:05:50Which, quite frankly, wouldn't surprise me.
00:05:52She was very independent... very strong-willed.
00:05:58She would have to be to get by on Camor V.
00:06:02But whether he's my son or not, he is in danger.
00:06:06Bok tried to kill me six years ago and I don't doubt that he will try to make good his threat against the boy.
00:06:21Anything?
00:06:23There are no Ferengi vessels within range of our scanners.
00:06:25Captain, I am unable to find any information on Jason Vigo's current whereabouts.
00:06:30What about his mother? No, sir.
00:06:32Miranda was trained as a botanist.
00:06:35She always used to talk about running a farm one day.
00:06:37Maybe we should concentrate on the agricultural areas.
00:06:40That would significantly narrow our search.
00:06:42The only cultivated land is on the southern continent and there are relatively few people engaged in agricultural activities.
00:06:48There cannot be many non-Camorites among them.
00:06:50Scan for human life signs.
00:06:55DATA: I am detecting eight humans.
00:06:57Three are female.
00:06:59However, they are all too young to be Miranda Vigo.
00:07:01What about males?
00:07:04One is an infant.
00:07:06Another is elderly.
00:07:09Two are middle-aged.
00:07:10That's seven. You said there were eight.
00:07:12I am having difficulty getting a clear reading on the eighth.
00:07:16The individual appears to be approximately two kilometers beneath the planet's surface.
00:07:21Male or female?
00:07:23Male.
00:07:24Between 20 and 30 years old.
00:07:26No one in their right mind would go that far underground alone.
00:07:30Unless he were forced to.
00:07:31Captain, I am reading seismic instability in the area.
00:07:34He is in danger.
00:07:37Relay his coordinates to the transporter room.
00:07:38Have them beam him aboard.
00:07:40DATA: Aye, sir.
00:07:46( whoosh of active transport )
00:07:51What the...?
00:07:57This is a Federation ship.
00:07:59That's right.
00:08:00I'm Captain Picard, Jean-Luc Picard.
00:08:03I realize I wasn't supposed to be spelunking that cave, but don't you have something better to do?
00:08:09We thought you were at risk.
00:08:10Oh. Well, I wasn't.
00:08:12So maybe you should just beam me back where I was.
00:08:15Are you Jason Vigo?
00:08:18I, uh...
00:08:19I know him.
00:08:21Is he in trouble?
00:08:22In a manner of speaking.
00:08:27Someone has made a threat against his life.
00:08:32Jason,
00:08:33I'm an old friend of your mother's.
00:08:36I'm here because you're in danger.
00:08:39Why would anybody want to kill me?
00:08:43The person who has made the threat is under the impression that you... are my son.
00:08:53Am I?
00:08:56I don't know.
00:08:58My mother never told me who my father was-- just that he was in Starfleet.
00:09:04Maybe we should contact her.
00:09:07She, uh... she died a few years ago.
00:09:12Oh, I'm sorry.
00:09:18Jason, I think it's important that we find out one way or the other.
00:09:23Would you be willing to permit a genetic test?
00:09:27If I'm not your son, is this person still going to want to kill me?
00:09:31I doubt it.
00:09:33In that case, you won't mind my saying that I hope you're not my father.
00:09:57What were you doing in the caves, Jason?
00:10:00Are you a seismologist?
00:10:02No, I just enjoy climbing.
00:10:05Without an antigrav harness?
00:10:08No, they get in the way.
00:10:12So, what do you do?
00:10:16Um... I'm between jobs right now.
00:10:22I see.
00:10:26Excuse me, gentlemen.
00:10:28The test results are ready if you'd like to hear them.
00:10:34Your genetic code is a cross between the DNA of your mother, Miranda Vigo, and your father,
00:10:41Jean-Luc Picard.
00:11:03What's all this?
00:11:05Oh, these are archaeological fragments that I've collected over the years.
00:11:11This is a Silvan glyph stone.
00:11:15And, um, this is...
00:11:19This is a Gorlan prayer stick.
00:11:21It's really quite rare.
00:11:25Is it valuable?
00:11:26Oh, not really.
00:11:28Only to students of archaeology such as myself.
00:11:31Though, I did have to hand over a bottle of very old Saurian brandy for it.
00:11:37I'd say you got taken.
00:11:41Well, perhaps.
00:11:42But it's of value to me nonetheless.
00:11:46On Camor, something has value if you can eat it or sell it.
00:11:50Everything else is luxury.
00:11:54Would you like some tea?
00:11:56No... thanks.
00:11:59Something else?
00:12:01No.
00:12:03Tea, Earl Grey, hot.
00:12:06I'm sure that this whole thing is as much of a surprise to you as it is to me.
00:12:14I really want to be honest with you, Jason.
00:12:17I only knew your mother for a very short time.
00:12:22I-I would have liked to have known her better...
00:12:28It just didn't work out that way.
00:12:31You look a lot like her, you know.
00:12:33It's the eyes, I think.
00:12:37I would like to make one thing clear, Jason.
00:12:40Your mother never told me about you.
00:12:44If she had, I would have been part of your life.
00:12:48Maybe that's not what she wanted.
00:12:56I think I'd like to go back to the surface now.
00:13:00I think it would be better if you stayed on board the Enterprise until we have resolved this situation with Bok.
00:13:05What is this situation with Bok, anyway?
00:13:07I mean, why does he want me dead?
00:13:11Years ago, I was forced to destroy a starship commanded by his son.
00:13:17Bok apparently feels that it would be fitting vengeance to kill my son.
00:13:23Well, I can't hide forever.
00:13:25Of course not.
00:13:26We are trying to locate Bok now.
00:13:29I want to confront him, settle this matter.
00:13:31How long is this going to take?
00:13:35I assure you, there is no one more eager to put this behind us than I am.
00:13:47Where do I stay?
00:13:49We'll get you some quarters.
00:13:53Okay, let's go.
00:13:55Jason...
00:13:58Your being here...
00:14:00I hope it will give us the chance to get to know each other.
00:14:09We've managed to shut down the probe's power system, so we could beam it aboard, but it's not going to be easy to figure out where this thing came from.
00:14:16Bok took the precaution of encrypting the probe's navigational systems so that we would be unable to decipher its flight path.
00:14:21We ran an analysis of the probe's hull.
00:14:23From the energy signatures and the particle deposits we found, it looks like it traveled through a dichromic nebula, was exposed to an intensive gravimetric distortion, and passed within one light year of a Class-4 pulsar.
00:14:34Those phenomena are relatively common.
00:14:36We would need to identify at least one of them specifically in order to postulate a flight path.
00:14:41Understood.
00:14:43Captain, incoming message from Daimon Birta.
00:14:47Put it on screen.
00:14:51Thank you for taking the time to talk with us, Daimon.
00:14:53I understand you have a problem.
00:14:56Yes, it concerns Daimon Bok.
00:14:59Bok is no Daimon.
00:15:01He was relieved of command six years ago.
00:15:04He was unstable, dangerous.
00:15:07We had to confine him to Rog prison.
00:15:10But he's no longer there.
00:15:11He was able to buy himself out about two years ago.
00:15:15I see.
00:15:18Do you know his whereabouts now?
00:15:20I understand he was seen in the Dorias Cluster not too long ago.
00:15:26But that cluster consists of more than 20 star systems.
00:15:30( chuckling )
00:15:33You don't have to thank me, Captain.
00:15:37LA FORGE: Believe it or not, Captain, that might have given us the fix we need.
00:15:40There's a nebula in the Dorias Cluster that matches the same particle signature we found on the probe.
00:15:44There is a Class-4 pulsar three light-years from the nebula.
00:15:48My calculations indicate the probe was launched in the Xendi Kabu system.
00:15:54Plot a course, take us out of orbit.
00:16:11Jean-Luc, come in.
00:16:13I think I need to talk to a parent.
00:16:24So, what's he like?
00:16:26I'm not sure that I can tell you.
00:16:29He puts up so many barriers.
00:16:32I have no idea what is underneath.
00:16:34Keep in mind he's had 20 years to be angry that his father wasn't there.
00:16:38It's going to take some time to get over those feelings but I do think it's possible.
00:16:44Perhaps.
00:16:46But surely it would be wrong to force the issue.
00:16:49My sense is that he is a very independent young man.
00:16:53Perhaps it would be best if I left him alone.
00:16:56Let him come to me if he wants to.
00:17:01Maybe you're right.
00:17:04But I think you should consider this.
00:17:08Are you doing the best thing for Jason or what's easiest for you?
00:17:19( door chimes )
00:17:21Yeah.
00:17:26Hello, Jason.
00:17:27I'm Deanna Troi, ship's counselor.
00:17:30Come in.
00:17:32Did Captain Picard ask you to come talk to me?
00:17:34No, I just thought I'd come and see how you were doing.
00:17:38A lot's happened in the last few hours.
00:17:39I thought you might like to talk about it.
00:17:42I'll be all right.
00:17:43People have wanted to kill me before.
00:17:46But you've never met your father before.
00:17:48And I have to admit, I never thought I would.
00:17:51It must be somewhat overwhelming.
00:17:55I'm a little shaky.
00:17:57Well, that's only natural.
00:17:59But you know what?
00:18:01I feel better already just talking to you.
00:18:06So, how did you feel about the captain?
00:18:08About your father?
00:18:10He's okay.
00:18:11A little stiff.
00:18:13But where are you from?
00:18:16I was born on Betazed.
00:18:18Do all the women there have eyes like yours?
00:18:23Look, Jason, I came here to talk to you because I'm the ship's counselor.
00:18:27If you don't want to talk to me in that way then I think I should go.
00:18:33Fine.
00:18:37You're welcome to make an appointment to come to my office.
00:18:40Maybe I'll do just that.
00:18:59BOK: Picard, can you hear me?
00:19:07I will kill him, Picard, and there's nothing you can do about it.
00:19:13Security to Captain's quarters immediately.
00:19:25Our shields were up.
00:19:27How could he have beamed through them?
00:19:28I'm not sure he did.
00:19:30Sensors don't show any sign of an intruder.
00:19:32Could it have been another hologram?
00:19:34I don't think so, Captain.
00:19:36Something has to generate a hologram.
00:19:38We would have detected it.
00:19:39Bok once used a mind-control device to make me hallucinate.
00:19:43That device emitted a very specific energy signature.
00:19:46I'm not reading anything like that.
00:19:48Could he have modified the device so he could use it without being detected?
00:19:51It's possible.
00:19:52I'll recalibrate the sensors to scan for low-intensity transmissions and just to be sure, I'll sweep your quarters with a resonance scanner.
00:19:59Good. Keep me posted.
00:20:02Mr. Worf, I want you to assign a security detail to Jason.
00:20:05And what about yourself?
00:20:07I am not the target of Bok's threats.
00:20:09Jason is.
00:20:12Captain, I have compiled all available records pertaining to Jason Vigo's criminal record.
00:20:17Criminal record?
00:20:19Yes, sir. He has been charged three times with petty theft, twice for disorderly conduct and several dozen times with trespassing.
00:20:27Trespassing?
00:20:29I believe the charges relate to his climbing activities in the caves beneath the planet's surface.
00:20:35This is the information you requested, is it not?
00:20:39Thank you, Mr. Data.
00:21:00What was your name again?
00:21:02Lieutenant Rhodes.
00:21:03Actually... I meant your first name.
00:21:07Sandra.
00:21:10Well, Sandra,
00:21:12Do you think you could... give me some room?
00:21:17We're supposed to be keeping an eye on you.
00:21:19Can't you keep an eye on me from over there?
00:21:28( sighs )
00:21:37PICARD: Good morning.
00:21:40I thought you said your ship was the safest place I could be.
00:21:43Why the guards?
00:21:47Because Bok appeared in my quarters last night.
00:21:50Now, it might not have been him.
00:21:52It may have been an image. We're investigating.
00:21:55Look, why don't you just drop me off somewhere?
00:21:59I can watch out for myself.
00:22:00That wouldn't be wise.
00:22:01I've been doing it since I was 15.
00:22:03I'm sure you have, but Bok is a dangerous creature.
00:22:08He has a starship, he has technology--
00:22:10All right, all right. I'll stay here.
00:22:23You seem to like rock climbing.
00:22:25The holodeck can create some very challenging climbs.
00:22:32We could go down together and I could show you how to use the program.
00:22:35Thanks, but, uh, I think I can figure it out myself.
00:22:38Perhaps we could climb together.
00:22:39I'm probably not as... skilled as you but I'm not inexperienced.
00:22:45Look...
00:22:46I'm sorry.
00:22:48I appreciate what you're trying to do but, Captain...
00:22:55Captain?
00:22:56Father? Jean-Luc?
00:22:58I don't know what I'm supposed to call you.
00:23:00As soon as this thing with Bok is over,
00:23:03I'm leaving.
00:23:05So, don't you see?
00:23:08There really isn't any point in our getting acquainted.
00:23:18Let me know as soon as you catch him, all right?
00:23:30Captain's Log, Stardate 47829.1.
00:23:34We've been in the Xendi Kabu system for over three hours
00:23:37and still no sign of Bok.
00:23:40Captain, I am detecting an object 5,000 kilometers off our starboard bow.
00:23:44It is another probe.
00:23:46Why didn't we detect it before?
00:23:48It must have been cloaked, sir.
00:23:50It came out of nowhere.
00:23:52On screen.
00:23:59Is it another holographic device?
00:24:01I do not believe so.
00:24:04Captain, the probe's systems are overloading.
00:24:06Red alert! Shields up.
00:24:18Damage report.
00:24:19No damage, sir.
00:24:21Captain, I do not believe it was meant as an attack but rather as a message.
00:24:25A message?
00:24:26Yes sir, in B'zal, a Ferengi code which uses alternating patterns of light and darkness.
00:24:32Can you translate it?
00:24:34I am attempting to do so.
00:24:37The message reads:
00:24:39"My revenge is at hand."
00:24:45He's proved that he can get to us whenever he wants.
00:24:48Why doesn't he do something?
00:25:08Tea, Earl Grey, hot.
00:25:17If you want me to stay and talk you better not call for security this time.
00:25:23How do you like your boy, Captain?
00:25:25Is he everything you'd always hoped for?
00:25:28It's a risky game you're playing, coming here.
00:25:30Next time, we'll be ready for you.
00:25:33Why don't we settle this now?
00:25:34Oh... and how do you propose to do that, Picard?
00:25:38You murdered my son!
00:25:41It was self-defense-- he fired on my ship.
00:25:43You were in Ferengi space!
00:25:45I didn't know that.
00:25:46If he'd told me, I would have withdrawn.
00:25:50I'm sorry, but there's nothing I can do to bring him back.
00:25:53How touching.
00:25:55Your apology is worthless to me.
00:25:58I demand that you repay me for my loss.
00:26:01You cannot put a price on a life.
00:26:03Oh, but you can, Picard.
00:26:06You can pay me with your son's life.
00:26:08No.
00:26:10You don't have any choice!
00:26:13I insist on being paid.
00:26:23That should do it.
00:26:25Let's run a level-3 bio-scan just to be sure.
00:26:28Rhodes to Sick Bay.
00:26:29Medical emergency, deck nine, section four.
00:26:32Let's go.
00:26:54Have you had any other seizures like this before?
00:26:57No, not really.
00:26:59Sometimes my hand shakes, but never this bad.
00:27:03When did it first start to happen?
00:27:05About a few months ago.
00:27:08Do you have any idea what's wrong with me?
00:27:10You have a condition called the Forrester-Trent syndrome.
00:27:13It's a degenerative neurological disorder-- very rare.
00:27:17What do you mean, degenerative?
00:27:19If it goes untreated, it could result in paralysis, even death.
00:27:24I'm going to start you on a neuro-stabilization regimen.
00:27:27If we're lucky, it will halt the degeneration and maybe reverse its effects.
00:27:33The disease is hereditary.
00:27:34I know your father doesn't have it.
00:27:36Was your mother prone to these seizures?
00:27:38Not that I know of.
00:27:39There have been some cases reported where the disease was instigated by a random mutation.
00:27:46I'll run a micro-cellular scan and see if that's what happened.
00:27:50In the meantime,
00:27:52I want you to try to take it easy and get some rest.
00:27:55(scoffs)
00:28:04Is he going to be all right?
00:28:06I wish I could say for certain.
00:28:09But I'm not sure how he'll respond to treatments.
00:28:13I've been thinking about what you said the other day, and...
00:28:18You know, I think you were right.
00:28:19I had convinced myself that Jason didn't want me to reach out to him.
00:28:24You know, I don't think anyone is born knowing how to be a parent.
00:28:28You just sort of figure it out as you go, but the one quality that tends to be a requirement for parenthood is patience.
00:28:37Well, I'm not sure that that is going to be enough.
00:28:41I found out that...
00:28:44Jason has a criminal record.
00:28:47It's nothing very serious.
00:28:48It's only petty theft and so forth, but I can't help feeling that if I had been part of his life then he wouldn't be so troubled now.
00:28:58Maybe, but why waste time blaming yourself for not being there?
00:29:02Just be here for him now.
00:29:05And be patient?
00:29:07And be patient.
00:29:16We think we've found something, Captain.
00:29:19Bok was in direct contact with this chair for an extended period.
00:29:22It is showing a distinctive subspace signature as a result.
00:29:26We think he's using some kind of subspace transporter to beam aboard the Enterprise.
00:29:31My understanding is that such devices were impractical.
00:29:35The Federation abandoned its research in the field because the technology was found to be unreliable, as well as energy intensive.
00:29:41In order to transport matter through subspace, you have to put it in a state of quantum flux.
00:29:46It's very unstable.
00:29:47What range would that kind of transporter have?
00:29:49In theory, it could operate over several light years.
00:29:52That means that the probe that exploded could have been beamed into position from some point outside sensor range.
00:29:58If Bok uses his transporter again, we might be able to trace the subspace signature and locate his ship.
00:30:04Is there any way we can we keep Bok from beaming aboard the Enterprise again?
00:30:09I don't think there is.
00:30:11See, if he has the ability to beam aboard he may be able to beam someone away.
00:30:16It is a possibility.
00:30:18I'm concerned that he may try to take Jason.
00:30:20Is there any way we can protect him?
00:30:22You know, we might be able to keep a signal lock on him at all times.
00:30:26If Bok tries to beam him away, we might be able to hold him here.
00:30:29In order to do so, we would need to tie the ship's subspace field coils into the transporter system.
00:30:36Make it so.
00:30:40Computer, where is Jason Vigo?
00:30:43Jason Vigo is in holodeck four.
00:30:51( grunts )
00:31:13Would you wait outside?
00:31:17( door opens, closes )
00:32:05Not bad.
00:32:07I like climbing.
00:32:11There's something about actually having your fate in your own hands.
00:32:16Yeah, I know.
00:32:21It looks as though we may have found out how to locate Bok's ship.
00:32:25This could all soon be over.
00:32:28You came all the way up here just to tell me that?
00:32:30I thought it would make you feel better.
00:32:34Thanks.
00:32:35That was nice of you.
00:32:42Jason, when your mother and I parted,
00:32:46I lost track of her completely.
00:32:49But I would like to know more about what happened to her, if you wouldn't mind telling me.
00:32:53Like what?
00:32:54Well, how did you end up on Camor?
00:32:57It's an unlikely place for a woman and child.
00:33:00Well, you know how she was--
00:33:02See a stray cat, take it in.
00:33:04See somebody cold, give them your coat.
00:33:08Yes, that was Miranda, all right.
00:33:10She'd heard about all the children that had been orphaned on Camor from the Cardassian war.
00:33:16Oh... I see.
00:33:18I was only ten when we went there.
00:33:22I remember her telling me all about the boys and girls that didn't have anyone to care for them.
00:33:30So she got this big house, practically falling apart then she started rounding up children.
00:33:38Eventually, there were over 40 of us there.
00:33:42She called it a school.
00:33:47You know, she got up before dawn every day and went to bed well after midnight.
00:33:54In between, she never stopped working.
00:34:01She taught us all how to read.
00:34:05And she grew vegetables in hardpan to feed us.
00:34:10And she made sure we knew how to sing.
00:34:14It's important in a place like Camor.
00:34:19And then one day, she was attacked by two men in the street in broad daylight for the food she was carrying.
00:34:30And if she'd just given it to them, they probably wouldn't have hurt her.
00:34:35But she knew how important the food was to us.
00:34:42So they killed her.
00:34:46I'm so sorry.
00:34:49Don't be sorry for me.
00:34:53My mother made sure that we were all tough enough to make it.
00:34:58Jason, isn't there some way that I can be a father to you?
00:35:03My own father and I were estranged.
00:35:05He wanted me to stay at home and tend the vineyards, and I wanted to join Starfleet.
00:35:14And he died before we could come to terms with that, and I've regretted that all of my life.
00:35:24I don't want the same thing to happen to you and me.
00:35:28You don't understand.
00:35:29I'm not anybody you'd want for a son.
00:35:32Trust me, if you knew... if you knew anything about me, you wouldn't, you wouldn't be trying so hard.
00:35:39You're so wrong. Oh, really?
00:35:40Let me spell it out for you.
00:35:43I've been in trouble since I was a teenager.
00:35:46I lie.
00:35:48I steal.
00:35:50I use people.
00:35:52I'm a criminal.
00:35:54That's what your son is.
00:35:56I know.
00:36:00You do? Oh, yes.
00:36:02I know all about your troubles with the Camor authorities.
00:36:07You do?
00:36:09It doesn't make any difference, Jason.
00:36:10You're still my son.
00:36:13And like it or not, I'm your father.
00:36:19I don't know what that means.
00:36:22I know it means something.
00:36:25There's some connection.
00:36:29Yeah.
00:36:31But one thing is clear--
00:36:33You'll never look at your hairline again in the same way.
00:36:53You wanted to see me?
00:36:55Yes.
00:36:56It's about Jason.
00:37:05I finished the micro-cellular scan I was running.
00:37:09There's something you need to know.
00:37:12Sir, sensors are detecting a subspace carrier wave headed for the ship.
00:37:16Its signature is consistent with Bok's transporter.
00:37:19See if you can trace it and locate Bok's ship.
00:37:22Geordi, are you ready down there?
00:37:24I've got a signal lock on Jason.
00:37:26Riker to Picard.
00:37:27Picard here.
00:37:29Bok is trying to use his transporter.
00:37:37The transporter beam is focusing on deck nine, section four.
00:37:43Jason's quarters.
00:37:44LA FORGE: I'm on it, Commander.
00:37:46RHODES: Security to Bridge.
00:37:47Bok is beaming Jason off the ship.
00:37:52Initiating transport now.
00:38:02I'm losing his signal.
00:38:06Bok is reestablishing his lock on him.
00:38:21Have you been able to locate Bok's ship?
00:38:23No, sir.
00:38:24The subspace signature left by his transporter is decaying more rapidly than predicted.
00:38:28It may not be possible to trace it.
00:38:30WORF: Captain, another probe has materialized
00:38:33500 kilometers to starboard.
00:38:36It is sending a transmission.
00:38:37Put it on screen.
00:38:40This is a very special day, Picard.
00:38:4415 years ago you took my son away from me.
00:38:47Today, I will take your son away from you.
00:38:52It will be our anniversary.
00:38:58I wanted you to see him one last time.
00:39:04DATA: I am tracing the transporter beam
00:39:07Bok used to send the probe.
00:39:08The ship is holding position approximately 300 billion kilometers from here.
00:39:13Plot a course. Maximum warp.
00:39:17Even at warp nine, we wouldn't get there for another 20 minutes.
00:39:20The modifications you made to the transporter--
00:39:23Is there any way we could use a subspace transport from here to get me onto Bok's ship?
00:39:29It may be possible, sir, but it would not be advisable.
00:39:32I'll take that as a yes. You're with me.
00:39:44There.
00:39:45I've aligned the field coils.
00:39:48Phase dampers are in sync.
00:39:50Standing by to modulate the transport pattern.
00:39:54Captain, we might be able to get you over there but I don't see how we're going to get you back.
00:39:58We'll deal with that when the time comes.
00:40:02Transport's going to take longer than normal.
00:40:03We'll have to shunt your pattern through the subspace field coils. Understood.
00:40:07Initiating transport sequence now.
00:40:13Maybe we can make a deal.
00:40:15What kind of deal?
00:40:16Tell my father you killed me.
00:40:19Put a phaser burn on my shirt and send it to him.
00:40:22He'll think I'm dead.
00:40:25That's what this is about, isn't it?
00:40:28I got friends on Camor V that will make it worth your while.
00:40:31I understand your desire to live, but I want Picard to see your body so there will be no doubt.
00:40:40Lower your weapons or Bok is dead.
00:40:45Lower yours, or your son dies!
00:40:47You know as well as I do, Bok, he's not my son.
00:40:52I know what you've done.
00:40:54Miranda Vigo is his mother, but I am not his father.
00:40:57You made it appear so because you re-sequenced his DNA, but your technique was flawed.
00:41:04He developed a neurological disorder.
00:41:07When my ship's doctor investigated it, she discovered what you had done.
00:41:13Now he'll never pay the ransom.
00:41:15Shut up!
00:41:16There never was a ransom.
00:41:18All he was ever interested in was vengeance.
00:41:21Daimon, is this true?
00:41:23He's not a daimon!
00:41:25He was stripped of command.
00:41:27They had no right to do that to me.
00:41:30He lied to you, so that you would help him in his plan.
00:41:33The Enterprise is closing in on your position.
00:41:36If you let the two of us go, they won't attack you.
00:41:39They won't attack us with you on board.
00:41:42They will cripple your ship and keep you here until the Ferengi authorities arrive.
00:41:48You've got a lot of explaining to do.
00:41:51Your only hope is to turn Bok over to them and tell them that he deceived you.
00:42:04There is no profit in this for us.
00:42:15Captain's Log, Stardate 47831.8.
00:42:18At Jason's request
00:42:20the Enterprise has returned to Camor V.
00:42:23Dr. Crusher feels
00:42:26I'm responding well to the treatment.
00:42:28She thinks that the damage may be completely reversed.
00:42:31I'm glad to hear it. Yeah.
00:42:33Are you sure that you wouldn't like to stay on board the Enterprise for a few more days?
00:42:36Uh, I can't.
00:42:38I have a life back on Camor.
00:42:41It's a mess, but I'd like to go back and straighten things out.
00:42:44I understand.
00:42:51Well, uh, maybe next time you come back this way you can look me up.
00:42:57I will.
00:42:58I, uh, put a little something into your bag while you were packing.
00:43:13I know you would probably have preferred a bottle of Saurian brandy but, uh, that's all I could come up with.
00:43:19I-I can't accept this.
00:43:21I want you to have it.
00:43:44Energize.
